Susanne at Living to Tell the Story hosts a “Friday Fave Five” in which we share our five favorite things from the past week. Click on the button to read more of the details, and you can visit Susanne to see the list of others’ favorites or to join in.
1. School’s out! Jesse’s school has a teacher’s conference for a couple of days.
2. The Biggest Loser. I only started watching the show last year. I don’t like the trainers’ yelling in faces, but I love seeing the contestants’ progress. I loved that everyone did well and no one got sent home this week.
3. Triple chocolate chip cookie from the Barnes and Noble Cafe. Jeremy brought one back for me when he went out there this week. It was perfect — fresh and soft. And no, the irony is not lost on me that I mention that after mentioning The Biggest Loser — or that I received it while watching that show.
4. Picking up my cross stitch again. I had set it aside before Christmas and just got it out again this week. I like working on it while watching TV — unless it’s something really suspenseful and needs full attention.
5. Jasmine rice. Jeremy, my oldest, has been teaching himself to cook in anticipation of leaving the nest one day. He’s very much a by-the-book cook whereas I tend to throw things together, substituting or leaving out ingredients I don’t have. He has taught me a few things! I’m finding out those little touches can make a big difference. Something he made called for jasmine rice, and I really liked it. It comes out better for me and takes a little less time than long grain, but has a better texture than Minute rice. I used it for the first time myself in one dish this week, and really liked how it came out.
I’m off to the doctor this morning — NOT a favorite thing. But it’s been well over a year since I have been there, and they won’t refill my prescriptions unless I come in. I know, I know, how demanding. 🙄 Just kidding. I don’t mind the not eating before the lab work that much, but not drinking is really getting to me. I almost always have something to sip on close at hand. This will be my first “over 50” appointment where I already know she’s going to want to discuss some of those over-50 things they like to schedule…so I am not looking forward to that. But, I’ll be around to visit you all later on today.

That one over-fifty test is a doozie.
Oh deeeear! Good luck at that Dr. visit! Actually THIS visit won’t be so bad … it’s those “others” she’ll want to schedule!
I’ve never tried Jasmine rice — I’ve never even heard of it! But I looooove my long grain sticky rice…. I’ll have to look for Jasmine rice now and TRY it though – because you’ve mentioned it! 🙂
HA on the chocolate cookie vs. The Biggest Looser. I’ve never seen the show but I’ve definitely been curious about it!
Ah, Barbara, the doctors’ visits were on my list, too. But you’ll be glad to have been (even the 50+ tests…)
I live in the land of jasmine rice but I haven’t eaten that in a long time 🙂 Wow! cross stitching while watching TV? amazing multi-tasking! Hope the visit to the doc goes well. Happy weekend!
I have never had jasmine rice and have always wondered what it was like. In my mind it always has a “flowery” taste. LOL.
I haven’t watched The Biggest Loser yet, but I keep hearing good things about it. Triple Chocolate Chip Cookies – now that is something I can get into! I used to love cross-stitching. Maybe one day I’ll pick it up again, too. Good luck with the over-50 things at your doc appointment. Hope they won’t be as bad as you suspect.
I love watching the biggest loser. It’s inspiring.
I cannot imagine life without rice – I love rice, especially jasmine rice!
Happy Friday.
I am on my way to B&N soon. I’ll get a cookie for you. And just to be extra considerate, I’ll eat it for you, too!
Here is Hawaii, rice is served at every meal. Breakfast is rice and eggs instead of hashbrowns and eggs. I have actually come to like it.
Mmmm triple chocolate chip cookies and the jasmine rice sound wonderful. Good luck with the doctor. I’ve been to that over 50 appointment…YIKES…Have a wonderful day and a good weekend 🙂
I used to cross stitch but gave it up when life got too busy. I’m afraid I’d have trouble seeing all those tiny squares, now!
Sounds like a week of delights! I do hope the doctor appointment went smoothly, and that you had something good to read in the waiting room. 🙂
I used to do a lot of cross stitch as well but have not done for years. I also love jasmine rice. Sounds like a good week.
I enjoy Biggest Loser too. It’s very inspiring for me, and helps me to know that I can lose those last few lbs. I’d like to get off especially before the holidays.
Hey, Barbara…..well, I’m at that point in my life where I go to the dr. once every three months for a check-up whether I need it or not. My doctor schedules routine tests or whatever as needed. He is not an over-doer in that aspect for which I am so thankful. And he is able to do many of them in his office. I remember taking my mother to the dr. every three months and asking her “But Mom, if there’s nothing wrong with you, why do you go so often?” And now here I am doing the same thing! Argh!
I have Biggest Lose Tivo’d but haven’t watched it yet!
I go to Walmart, peruse the new books, make a list and then head to the library to request them! 🙂 They are so great about getting books for me! (Being a former employee might be a help?:-) )
Have a great weekend!!
I hope all will be well during your visit. I’ve consumed Jasmine rice a couple of times.
