Friday’s Fave Five

Susanne at Living to Tell the Story hosts a “Friday Fave Five” in which we share our five favorite things from the past week. Click on the button to read more of the details, and you can visit Susanne to see the list of others’ favorites or to join in.

So here are five of my favorite things from this past week:

1. Eating out at one of our favorite Mexican food places last weekend. I love the chicken chimichangas at that particular place. I’ve thought about trying to learn to make them…but they do such a great job, I will just enjoy theirs.

2. Jesse’s first JV basketball game of the season. It was nice because all of us were able to be there, even Grandma. And…well, let’s just say last year they didn’t win more than they did win…and they WON their first game this week!! We started out about 10 points behind, but then we got ahead, then it was neck and neck, and then we were ahead the last quarter. It was a pretty exciting game — and I am not normally much of a sports enthusiast! I love it when it’s not a complete slaughter one way or the other.

3. Our town’s annual “Dickens of a Christmas” celebration.

4. A handy husband who knew how to fix the leaky washer — had to replace the pump, which had a crack in it.

5. A sweet daughter-in-law who made meals a couple of days when I was under the weather.

Bonus:

These cute little bottle brush trees ordered from Reflections From the Stone Nest. I think the tallest one is maybe 6″. I’m afraid I am just going to have to leave you with a link to the photo of them on her site, because after spending way more time than I have this morning, I can’t get my photo of them to upload either here on WordPress or on Flickr. But they are cute!

Happy Friday!

  1. A great list! Oh my gosh, that Dickens of a Christmas looks like it was GREAT fun! I love that sort of thing.

I hope you have a fabulous weekend. My Fav Five is up too.

  2. Oh those trees are adorable! You have had a good week – in spite of being under the weather for part of it! Congrats to Jesse on his team’s win! I always found that I was ALWAYS a BIG fan to whatever sport my children happened to be playing at the time. They really tested me when they got into skateboarding — but eventually I found IT to be fun too!

  3. That’s what I like about dishes made by others who are better at it than I am – I’ll just enjoy theirs 🙂 Dickens of a christmas sounds like my kind of celebration. It’s great when games somewhat are balanced good for both sides.

  4. Sounds like a week filled with blessings big and small. It is so good to have a handy husband. Hats off to DIL for filling in the gaps for you. Glad you are feeling better. I love to have Mexican food!!
    Have a wonderful weekend…

  5. Nah, don’t bother learning how to cook the chimichangas as long as someone else can make them for you.

It is fun to get a win! Glad Jesse started out that way.

Hope you’re feeling better now. You must be a nice m-i-l if your d-i-l brought you food. Blessings on your weekend!

  6. That Dickens of a Christmas was just wonderful. Cute those trees are 🙂 Congrats to Jesse on the win and what a great DIL. You had a great week. Hope you have a wonderful weekend my friend 🙂

  7. chicken chimichangas – sound very interesting! I’ve never had them.

A handy husband is always a blessing. And Dickens of a Christmas sounds like a wonderful event!

  8. How nice of your daughter in your law to help you out with a few meals.

Congrats to Jesse on his team’s win. Hopefully he’ll have a great season.

That Dicken’s of a Christmas is such a unique thing. I’ve never heard of it anywhere else.

  9. I hope you’re feeling better now. Kuddos to your dil for helping you!

I’m so late getting around to read the FFFs–I was on jury duty all day today!

  10. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog. I am sadly running late in responding. The holidays caused me to start operating in “lag time.” But the thanks are as genuine as if you just wrote on my blog today!

We live in the country and we had a mouse, but no more. Of course one usually means 2 or 3 more!

Grandbabies are the best. Actually any baby is quite wonderful! Sorry to read about your list of things non-operational. Those things do tend to happen at the same time!

Well have a glorious Christmas as we celebrate the birth of our King!

  11. What a wonderful DIL that will make meals for you! You are blessed.

An exciting sports event in which your family participates is ALWAYS a good time, in my books! Glad your team won!

The Dicken’s Christmas looks like a lot of fun!

  12. Loved your fave five, Barbara and especially that your DIL was so sweet to fix food for youwhen you were under the weather!
I so enjoyed the pictures you posted of the Dickens’ Christmas!!
My husband is a blessing, too, in that he can fix just about anything, so I’m glad that Jim was able to fix your washer for you. Oh, the money you saved! 🙂
