Friday’s Fave Five

Susanne at Living to Tell the Story hosts a “Friday Fave Five” in which we share our five favorite things from the past week. Click on the button to read more of the details, and you can visit Susanne to see the list of others’ favorites or to join in.

So here are five of my favorite things from this past week:

1. Getting the Christmas decorating done last weekend. Though it took us a while to find a time when everyone was off at the same time, I am glad that we still do it all together — even the married son and daughter-in-law! I know it will not always be that way, so I am enjoying it while I can.

2. Our church’s ladies’ Christmas party. It’s always a lot of fun, plus we get to see who our “Secret Sister” was for the past year. Mine was a complete surprise — I had thought for sure it was someone else. But the one I gave to figured me out. It was my good friend Carol whom I have mentioned before. Near the beginning of the year I had the wrong date in my head for her birthday — even though we have information cards with these things written down — and I got both her present from me and her Secret Sister to her a couple of weeks late. She figured out that wasn’t a coincidence. 🙂 But she was very gracious about it.

3. Winning books! I won one from Carrie and one from Linda.

4. Getting most of my Christmas shopping done Thursday. We had done a good bit online, which I prefer, but for some things you have to go to actual stores. And I do like that somewhat when it goes well. I was hoping to get it mostly done in one day anyway, but I was especially driven because for a while they were forecasting snow for Friday, and here many places close up when it snows. They changed the forecast later on, but I was glad I pushed through. Almost everyone was fairly friendly and cheerful, and I found some good things at good prices.

5. This decoration which I got on a clearance table after Christmas last year.

I don’t know if you can quite see the 3-D effect of the carolers and decorations on the front and the way the outline of it extends out. I had it on an end table in the family room, but it just got lost there. I put it on the windowsill above the sink in the kitchen, and now I enjoy it several times a day.

Bonus:

I get an e-mail newsletter from Leisure Arts, and the most recent one had instructions for a really cute Christmas tree package that they used as a favor to give pieces of fudge, but it could be used for any small gift. I haven’t tried it yet, but it is sooo cute.

Have a “merry and bright” Friday!

  1. What a cute little house! I love it.

That’s great that you’re pretty much done with shopping. My husband and I have a date tomorrow to get the last bits done.

It must have been special to decorate with your “new daughter” this year. That’s really neat that everyone is still able to take part.

    Merry last week before Christmas!

  2. You’re advance with the decorating and shopping. I have just started looking around. I’m sooo cramming in a few days. I love your christmas decoration. Yay for winning books! If I won books I’d be very happy too.

  3. I saw that Christmas tree package somewhere else this month… I think in a magazine! It IS cute!

I love your little church scene – and the first thing I thought was “it’s a puzzle!” … so yes, I did notice the 3Dness… But I guess it’s NOT a puzzle. lol.

You ARE so blessed to have your whole family help in decorating the house and tree! I’m positive that makes it a LOT more fun to do!

  4. I’m glad you got the book. I just picked up one of the other books in the series because I liked that one so much.

I love decorating the house as a family. When I was younger we had a tradition – mom would make a special meal and we’d have some kind of fun dessert treat and we’d all decorate the house all together. I loved it! Now I do it with my own family. Such fun times and fun memories.

In case I don’t get a chance to say it again this coming week – MERRY CHRISTMAS to you!!!

  5. What a sweet time you must have had with your family decorating the house. Thanks also for the link to the Christmas Tree box – won’t do it this year, but will try to remember to incorporate in my tablesettings next year.

  6. How nice that you’re able to decorate together. I had to give up that dream a couple of years ago. ha.

Good for you in getting your shopping done. I like doing as much online as possible, too. But nice to have convenient stores for things that I can’t buy online.

May you have a blessed Christmas!

  7. Congrats on winning the book and I a secret sister for a year is pretty cool. I love that decoration It is awesome my friend. Glad your shopping and decorating is completed. I have answered your question on my blog. I must say…I miss seeing something about food here LOL Have a wonderful Friday 🙂

  8. The whole family helps with decorating… how NICE.

I love the idea of “secret sisters.” I’d like to figure out how to implement that in my church bible study… thanks!

    Merry Christmas, Barbara!

    (((Hugs)))

  9. I loved doing Secret Sister when we were in AZ. We didn’t do it all year tho’. That sounds like fun. We’d usually start in Sept. and end at the ladies Christmas party. One year I was in charge of The List. Because of that I ended up getting quite a few little gifts from all the ladies. However, and very unfortunate, the true spirit came out in some of the women who would come to me with complaints about the gifts they were given. I was like, you’re kidding me right?
I’m going to head over to the craft idea.
    Have a great weekend.
    God bless!

  10. What fun to decorate together! Enjoy that privilege! Usually, at least one of my kids and their family come over to decorate the tree, but this year everyone (including me) have been too tied up. I’m doing it alone – a little at a time – and not hating it as much as I thought I would. 🙂

I love that church decoration – and it looks perfect on the window sill.

LOL ….. yeah, I think you gave your identity away with giving the birthday gifts late! Secret Sisters are fun.

And you won TWO books?! Lucky you!

    Have a wonderful Christmas!

  11. Congrats on not one book win but two! How awesome, enjoy them.

Love the little 3D ornament. So cute.

Secrest sisters are so fun. That’s funny how she figured out who you were.

  12. Congrats to the book winnings! Have a wonderful holiday and New Year, Barbara. I found out from Thom that you are celebrating your Anniversary. Wishing you a lifetime of joy and blessings together 🙂
