15 Influential Authors

Diane tagged me with this on Facebook, and I thought I’d post it here as well:

Don’t take too long to think about it. Fifteen authors (poets included) who’ve influenced you and that will always stick with you. List the first fifteen you can recall in no more than fifteen minutes. Tag at least fifteen friends, including me, because I’m interested in seeing what authors my friends choose.

1. Elisabeth Elliot
2. C. S. Lewis
3. C. H. Spurgeon
4. Amy Carmichael
5. Isobel Kuhn
6. Jim Berg
7. Erwin Lutzer
8. David Martin Lloyd-Jones
9. J. Oswald Sanders
10. Jim Elliot
11. Charles Dickens
12. Nancy Leigh DeMoss
13. Darlene Diebler Rose
14. Edith Schaeffer
15. Gracia Burnham

I got the first 10 in three minutes; I had to think a little more about the last five.

I am not going to tag anyone, but let me know if you do this — I’d love to see the list of your most influential authors.

  1. My list:

    1. Enid Blyton
    2. Stephen King
    3. Anne Rice
    4. Orson Scott Card
    5. Mark Twain
    6. Mary Shelley
    7. Francine Pascal
    8. Edward Stratemayer
    9. Alfred Hitchcock
    10. Oscar Wilde
    11. Charles Dickens
    12. Paulo Coelho
    13. Marcus Aurelius
    14. Henry Francis Lyte
    15. Charles Kingsley

These authors don’t necessarily represent the great big heavy hitting blockbusters associated with high literary fiction and poetry, which is great because although I like those works they have not necessarily had the most influence on me and my life. It is a representation of either a stage of my reading career, or a turning point that has opened up new things in my life, my thinking, my experiences and my library.

  2. Oh wow! I’m afraid I would need more than 15 minutes! I don’t have time right now… but … there are several on your list I’ve never heard of! I’m going to have to look into that you know…

I might do this another day. I promise not to think about it first though!!! 😉

I love hearing from you. I've had to turn on comment moderation. Comments will appear here after I see and approve them.
