Booking Through Thursday: Periodically

btt button Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme centering on the subject of books which poses a question or a thought for participants to discuss. The question for this week is:

Even I read things other than books from time to time … like, Magazines! What magazines/journals do you read?

I subscribe to:

Frontline

Victoria from my “adopted mom” who has kept me supplied with it for years.

Family Fun, which I’ve loved, but am not going to renew because it’s mainly for families with younger kids. Love some of their neat ideas for parties and holidays.

Taste of Home

Phyllis Hoffman Celebrate. Love the numerous neat ideas for special occasions.

Southern Lady

Martha Stewart Living

Real Simple

I also sometimes pick up Romantic Homes — I used to subscribe but a new editor and focus changed it too much for me — and some of Better Home and Garden’s specialty magazines like Do It Yourself or a craft magazine.

The problem is — I usually prefer to read books rather than magazines, so they stack up until I can’t stand it any more and then go through a big pile of them at one time. So I think I am going to let Martha Stewart and Real Simple run out — though sometimes they talk me into resubscribing with a good deal. 🙂

  1. This was an interesting meme and caught my eye….I love Southern Lady but it seems pretty expensive for the content…I’ve subscribed a couple of times. It is the only magazine that I have kept all issues..ever.
I have been a fan of Southern Living for many years….We also take Birds and Blooms and Birds and Blooms Extra. I love the pictures in these magazines.
Like you, I get behind on my magazines and have to schedule time to catch up.
I’d rather be reading a book.
    Mama Bear

  2. I LIKE magazines but only subscribed to one……..cooking one that I cant even remember the name of off the top of my head. (How sad is that?) But I love home decor/idea mags. I just never think to look for the deals. But they sure can be a source of good ideas!

  3. My mom has bought me a subscription to Taste of Home for Christmas for years now–and I absolutely adore it. Otherwise, I enjoy perusing magazines here and there but am glad I don’t actually subscribe to them. It seems to be a lot of money to spend on something that may or may not be useful. Thankfully, my library has a nice selection and I enjoy occasionally checking out Creating Keepsakes, Quiltmaker or Mental Floss.

    • All of these have a lot of good stuff in them. I like to pull out what I like and file it. It’s just hard to make time to, so I am letting some of the subscriptions run out.

I love hearing from you. I've had to turn on comment moderation. Comments will appear here after I see and approve them.
