Friday’s Fave Five

Welcome to Friday’s Fave Five, hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, in which we can share five of our favorite things from the last week. This has been a wonderful exercise in looking for and appreciating the good things God blesses us with. Click on the button to learn more, then go to Susanne’s to read others’ faves and link up your own.

Here are a few of mine:

1. A low-key week. That’s been especially helpful since our church starts a week of special meetings next week. It’s hard to start out that kind of week tired.

2. Going back to bed. Jesse had to be at school at 6 a.m. for a trip to a Fine Arts Festival his choir from school is in today in another town. Getting to school at that time means getting up that much earlier….so pretty soon after he left I went back to bed (thus my lateness in posting today!)

3. My husband taking Jesse to school so early so I didn’t have to.

4. A haircut. No pictures: nothing special or different, I was just overdue for one and finally got to it yesterday. Feels so much better!

5. The hope of heaven. I’m not trivializing that by putting it on a “favorites” list. It’s just especially poignant today as a the step-father of a friend from our church here passed away after a long health struggle. As believers we sorrow when a loved one dies, but not as those who have no hope (I Thessalonians 3:13-14). A verse that often comes to mind when a believer dies is John 17:24: “Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.”

  1. Lovely fives, Barbara. And I understand your reasons for #5 — we need that hope when we’re sorrowing. Enjoy your weekend before the busy week ahead!

  2. I’m due for a haircut as well. I never do anything wild or new. I just like the feeling of a fresh cut! With you there!

Going back to bed. Now THAT’S a great one for the week!

Hope your weekend continues on in like manner in being low-key and relaxing.

  3. Great week you had. Get some rest and relaxation in this weekend before all your meetings start 🙂 Have a great day 🙂

  4. Glad you had a low key week and were able to sleep in today. The hope of heaven is what keeps me going…

  5. I love low-key weeks!

I agree with Ellen, the hope of heaven is what keeps me going. Isn’t it wonderful when someone passes we can celebrate instead of sorrow? We can when we are sure of where they are going …

    • We do sorrow because we miss them — just like I missed my son when he was away for the summer, though with the passing of a loved one they’re away for a longer time and we can’t contact them. Those things do bring tears sometimes. But we do have the joy of knowing we’ll see them again.

  6. Haircuts do make you feel better–I got mine cut this week too. Heaven! My cousin’s mom passed away last night and so heaven has been on my mind today too.

  7. Low key weeks…can I have one of those? (Not for a while, it seems!)

Love that hope — kind of like my #5 this week, too.

Hope you have a great week ahead. Enjoy your gatherings!

  8. Low key is lovely. Upward basketball and co-op are both due to end next week, and I’m looking forward to a more low-key life as well.

The hope of Heaven. Good thought…

  9. Lucky you that you can go back to sleep! Once I am out of bed in the morning, that’s it, I just can’t go back to sleep. Nice of your husband to take Jesse to school too!

  10. Just had a haircut too and it’s amazing how a little thing like that can lift my mood.

Oh to be able to go back to bed. I don’t think I’ve done that in 20 years. LOL.

  11. I’d give anything for a low-key week. I just can’t seem to get one lately.
I’m sorry for the loss of your friends step father. But if anything can bring a little peace in these sad times, it is the knowing that there is the promise of heaven. And when we are in grief we don’t always remember that so thank you for reminder.

  12. Glad you had a low-key week before a high-key one (can we call them that?). Getting a fresh haircut always makes me feel better too, at least once I get back home and wash it and fix it like I want to. Ha. The hope of heaven – it’s a permanent favorite.
    Hope you’re enjoying your weekend!

  13. I’m sorry that you lost a friend, but that is a great reminder.
Low-key weeks are my favorites. I hope you enjoyed your extra sleep and your haircut!

  14. I just read through all the posts I missed, but I am only commenting here. I really could use a low-key week. I am not going to get one in ahile. Could you send Jesse? I could use help! 😉
