Welcome to Friday’s Fave Five, hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, in which we can share five of our favorite things from the last week. This has been a wonderful exercise in looking for and appreciating the good things God blesses us with. Click on the button to learn more, then go to Susanne’s to read others’ faves and link up your own.
Here are a few faves from the past week:
1. Father’s Day and the opportunity to show some appreciation and love to my husband. Not that we need a special day to do that, of course, but we enjoy those special days.
2. A task completed. I finally got my TN driver’s license. (Shhh, it was supposed to be done within 30 days of moving here last August…) I kept forgetting — and I needed to send off for my birth certificate and kept forgetting that, too. Finally got it done, and without much wait once I was there — I took a book because usually anything of that nature takes a while, but I didn’t even crack it open. My DL photo is probably the worst ever, and no, I am not showing it to you. 🙂 But I am very glad that ‘s done with for the next six years.
3. Electricity and safety. We’ve had a series of pretty severe thunderstorms every evening since Tuesday and we lost power for several hours Tuesday night. Unfortunately tens of thousands are still without power and a lot of people have trees down and parts of buildings damaged.
4. A repair instead of a replacement. A tooth in Grandma’s dentures came out a couple of times, and Jim found a denture repair kit and glued it back, but this week it came out again and got lost. We thought it was probably way past time to get her dentures checked out, anyway, and made an appointment. (Grandma, frugal as she is, protested, saying she wouldn’t live long enough to get use out of new ones…) But the dentist said it would actually be better to replace and fix the tooth rather than create a new set of dentures, and they cleaned and polished them while they had them. So that was nice in that it was a lot cheaper and it was much less of an ordeal for her (if they had made new dentures they would have had to make a new mold, etc.).
5. This guy:
That round thing is a little bird feeder that sticks onto the window via a suction cup. We have it on my mother-in-law’s window and another standing bird feeder in the grass. This guy was in this feeder when I came in, and Grandma was getting such a kick out of him, that she hardly paid attention when I said I had her new fixed dentures. I was afraid he was going to get stuck, but thankfully he got through. Personally, squirrels have kind of lost their cuteness to me over the years because they can be pests, but she got such enjoyment from his antics, and seeing him like this was pretty funny.
Have a great weekend!

I usually hate getting my DL picture made. But 4 years ago was a HORRIBLE picture so I actually looked forward to it last November. Ha. Glad you finally are a legal driver now. 🙂
Losing electricity seems to be a theme the past few months for those of us in the south, huh? Glad yours didn’t stay out too long. Ours has flickered some but we haven’t lost it totally in a few weeks in my neighborhood anyway.
What a funny squirrel!
That is the cutest dang squirrel I’ve ever seen. Love it. Sounds like you had a great week. Boy that weather back there is something else I tell ya. Have a great weekend.
what a blessing the visit to the dentist turned out to be. wahoo!
true we don’t need a special day to give appreciation. but i am glad we do have these special days. so many times i don’t slow down enough to give that appreciation if it wasn’t for the holiday.
I hate my dl picture too and I won’t show you mine either. lol
That squirrel is too funny. I’m glad he was entertaining for grandma. I hope things settle down weather wise and the bad storms will cease for a while. My driver license photo is deplorable…
Have a great weekend.
I’m glad you were able to repair instead of replace as she’d have to get used to the fit of a new pair-never fun.
I enjoy the Squirrels but have a time keeping them out of my flowers. We read that moth balls would deter them so I might try that. They were drinking my hummingbird food until I bought a baffle to hang under it. Now they can’t get on either feeder but there’s plenty of seed on the ground and we feed them corn. They fed on the seeds from the Maple Tree too.
Have a great weekend,
Mama Bear
Very cute squirrel — too bad they are pesty otherwise!
So nice you got some things off your list and didn’t have to replace dentures and still have electricity. Sounds like a full week!
For a couple years here they actually let us smile for our Driver’s license pictures but they’ve put it back to the old mug shot look. LOL.
It sounds like you guys get quite the extreme weather there. So glad you are okay at your place.
=D Man, TN makes it kind of hard to get a driver’s license from out of state! Of course, I haven’t had to do that in awhile and have forgotten. I never did end up getting my Idaho license when I moved there which was a good thing when I flew back to TX and lost my TX license but needed to get back on a plane. I just had to stand inline at the TX DMV and get a temporary license which would allow me to get back to ID and my job there! I hate dealing with that stuff though and would put it off just like you. =) Glad you got that done though.
Hope you’ve enjoyed a relaxing and restful weekend.
Your squirrel is a funny little guy!
I’m glad you’re a legal TN driver, and that your week was good!
I had to laugh at this! LOL! Such good shots of the little guy.
Congratulations on your TN license!
I can definitely empathize re: #2. 🙂
Oh, I told you about my driver’s license ordeal on the post with the parallel driving video. AND, I waited a year and a half to get my license here, so you’re still way ahead.
I am glad your MILs teeth were an easy, and less expensive, repair. For her entertainment pleasure you might want to put a Yankee Flipper bird feeder in her yard: http://youtu.be/X8YZIhlWpS0
