Friday’s Fave Five

Welcome to Friday’s Fave Five, hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, in which we can share five of our favorite things from the last week. This has been a wonderful exercise in looking for and appreciating the good things God blesses us with. Here are a few favorites from the past week:

1. Headache relief. I don’t get headaches often, but I had one hanging around most of six days this past week. It wasn’t incapacitating, but even with taking a couple of ibuprofen at a time, I still just felt draggy and a little down most of the week. Thankfully it seems to be mostly gone now.

2. Jesse’s birthday. I not only enjoyed celebrating his 18th year, but with Jason and Mittu coming over and Skyping Jeremy, birthdays are like a mini family reunion.

3. The official arrival of fall today. The temperatures have been a little cooler, and I am looking forward to more of that.

4. The new fall season on TV. Hope that doesn’t sound shallow. 🙂 But it’s nice to have a few more options than summer reruns. There are a few older shows I’m glad are resuming and a couple of new ones I’ve been anticipating.

5. Reminders that God is in control and cares. With our church going through Job and with recently reading Beyond Suffering: Discovering the Message of Job and The Misery of Job and the Mercy of God, the realization that nothing takes God by surprise and He has a purpose for everything He allows has helped as a difficult situation has arisen just yesterday. It is still unfolding, and it’s still easy to get very frustrated when people don’t realize the consequences of their actions. But He still promises wisdom and grace sufficient to meet every need.

  1. Yeah! It’s fall! As much as I enjoy summer, we had one heck of a heat wave this year (2nd hottest summer on record). And then it turned Sept. 1 and almost instantly turned to fall weather. Crazy.
Glad you’re on the tail end of your headache. Having it is bad enough but when they linger on and on, that’s a bummer.
Have a great weekend! God bless.

  2. Mini family reunions no matter how or why they occur are great for the soul. Such a great way to strengthen the family bonds of friendship.

So glad you were “prepared” for the unpleasant situation. It constantly amazes me how God dioes this (for me too) through books, sermons, etc. Prayed that the consequences of the other person’s actions will not be too severe for you, Barbara.

  3. Great list of FFF’s! Time celebrating with family is always awesome and I love how God uses different ways to grab out attention that He cares for us and is in control! I don’t watch Tv really except for one show but it IS nice to finally see it’s season premiere! Happy weekend!

  4. They say we may feel Fall here near the end of November…

I’m happy to see the new season, too! We’ve enjoyed some couch time this week, and have taped several shows to watch together at our leisure. (Love The Sing-Off!)

Yes, a great reminder — nothing takes Him by surprise! Have a great week.

  5. I think its fine to mention TV. I don’t watch a lot but I do like to now and then. I noticed that Downton Abbey had won some Emmy’s and would be returning on Masterpiece Theater. I was happy to read that as they only made 4 or 5 episodes and I really liked it. I also like the New Upstairs Downstairs and hope it returns. Plus a few other new shows caught my eye which I will watch on the networks web page after they start.
I’m glad your headache went away. Pain is so exhausting.
I was happy that the first day of Fall is a little cooler although it is cloudy here and rather dreary.

  6. So glad that headache is all but gone Barbara. Glad you enjoyed your son’s birthday! Oh man the Fall season is putting me in overload! Have a great weekend.

  7. You might want to try Excedrin Migraine even if it’s not a fullblown migraine. They work great for me. Just a thought! I’ve started having headaches more often also and wonder if it has something to do with our age.

  8. Wow, I bet you’re so relieved the headaches are tapering off. Hope you get some refreshing headache-free days ahead. It’s great that your kids all come together to celebrate. Great reason to enjoy one another and eat fun things.

  9. Always wonderful for a family to get together during birthdays. Glad your headache is gone. ‘Wisdom and grace sufficient to meet every need’ are God’s promises I’m thankful I read today. I seem to have forgotten them in the midst of some problem I am facing nowadays. Thanks for mentioning that.

  10. So glad your headache has eased. I know what you mean about not be incapacitating but it still really interferes in your day.

Love that your family gets “together” as best as they can to celebrate special occasions.

I’m very glad fall is here too, my favorite season, and yes, I like that my fave shows start again.
