Friday’s Fave Five

Welcome to Friday’s Fave Five, hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, in which we can share five of our favorite things from the last week. This has been a wonderful exercise in looking for and appreciating the good things God blesses us with. Another week flown by! Here are some of my favorite parts of it:

1. Organization. Not whole room make-overs, but just a drawer and a few shelves. I had bought some dividers for the drawer a while back but hadn’t put them in yet, and while doing that had an idea for what to do with the shelves. Just little things but very pleasing.

2. Sunday School potluck. For various reasons we hadn’t yet made it to any of our Sunday School’s activities — they usually have some kind of get-together outside of class about once a quarter. They had a potluck dinner last Sunday. I love potlucks — getting a chance to sample everyone’s best dishes. It was nice to have dinner done right after church, too — it usually takes a while for us by the time we get home, take care of Grandma, change clothes, and get started.

3. Texas Sheet Cake. My favorite cake, I think, and one of my contributions to the party. It makes a whole 15 x 10 pan full, so I can’t make it for just the three of us — I’d eat way too much of it. So it was nice to be able to make it for a group and still have some left to take home.

4. Pink products!

Didn’t notice til taking the picture that those were children’s hangers. Sigh. Will probably have to take them back as my clothes are considerably larger than a child’s.

5. Finding old love notes, this one from one of my sons. 🙂

Have a great weekend!

  1. Any bit of organization is a good thing. I keep thinking next year, next year, I’ll get more done. 🙂

I made a lemon pie on Monday because we were supposed to have company over that night. But they ended up cancelling after I had already made it. So I’m ashamed to say that Jeff and I ate the WHOLE pie within three days, just the two of us. ha. And enjoyed every bite. One day I’ll try to make your cake. I know I would love it!

  2. I looked at the Texas Sheet Cake recipe and realized it’s very similar to the buttermilk chocolate cake I grew up with, which is my favorite cake by far. The sour cream would lend the same tang that the buttermilk gives, and the icings are almost identical. You’re right – to use a good friend’s term, it’s “the best thing I ever put in my mouth.”!!!

  3. LOVE those love notes. So sweet! I have one of those sheet cake recipes, and it’s awesome.

I need to do some of that organization…

    Have a great week ahead!

  4. Church or school potlucks are things I have to give up for living abroad in a Buddhist country. I miss them. Your cake sounds yummy. It’s been ages since I last ate a sheet cake. I saw your love note 🙂 “grumpy cide” made me smile. How cute of Jason!

  5. Sheet cake is my absolute favorite. I have never made it because I know we would devour it way too quickly but I love when other people make it and share! Your son’s little love notes are so sweet!

    Thanks for stopping by today!

  6. There is no Sunday school in Waterloo where I live, only few go to church. It’s a catholic country and the people are fed up with the pope ! They prefer to have their private faith. 75 % of all Belgians don’t go to church ! But this has nothing to do with believing in God.

  7. Little steps in organization will eventually get it all done. I’ve only had Texas sheet cake once. May be time to try it again. How sweet finding those notes from your son.

  8. That love note fro your son has got to be the best! Sure love their spelling in their younger years. Sometimes it puts quite a spin on the original meaning.

Getting organized sure feels good especially when you can be colour coordinated.

  9. I enjoyed that love note from your son. So cute. Pink is a big deal this year. And I agree with you — potlucks are terrific fun. The trick is being disciplined with each serving size!

I love hearing from you and will approve your comment ASAP.
