Friday’s Fave Five

fall FFF 1It’s Friday, time to look back over the blessings of the week with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story and other friends.

It’s the last FFF of October already! Times a-flyin’! Here are some favorite parts of the last week:

1. Lasagna. I had gotten all the ingredients and was just waiting for a time when the kids would be here and I had the time and inclination. That all came together last Saturday!

2. Central heat. It finally got cold enough to turn on the furnace. I’m so glad I can just push a button and don’t have to deal with bringing in wood or cleaning out ashes (or having everything smell like wood smoke).

3. Clearing out things to give away. I have a box in the pantry for the purpose of tossing things I want to get rid of. That had expanded to more than one box, plus Jesse had a stack of clothes on top of his dresser that didn’t fit any more, plus a few other things had caught my eye. There was no major going-through of closets and such this time around, which was nice since I didn’t really have time for that, and it had been done earlier in the year anyway. But pulling out the things that had caught my eye did lead to a bit of sorting in cabinets and on shelves here and there. I’ve almost got it ready to take down to the thrift store. It’s nice to clear stuff out and get it to someone who can use it.

4. Having plans for the weekend. We’re not big goers and doers. Jim usually has something to do on the weekends (grass to cut, projects to work on, etc.), and I like spending them at home most of the time. But sometimes it’s nice to have something different to look forward to!

5. Bright blue skies after a few days of rainy and/or overcast ones. We needed the rain, and thankfully I didn’t have to get out in it, but it does my heart good to see blue out my window rather than grey.

Happy Friday!

  1. Since we don’t eat beef anymore I need to find a receipe for a chicken lasagna. I do like pasta.
We’ve had our heat on for a couple of weeks now. Grandma gets cold pretty easy.
I will be trying to “give stuff away” all winter. Because my hubby is a GOER! I can’t just tackle it and get it done in a weekend or two; we’re never home!
I can handle cool days as long as they are bright and sunny. πŸ™‚ Hope you have a great sunny weekend!

  2. We had lasagna this week as well. We had a church committee meeting at the house so decided to do a potluck. It was great – both meeting and lasagna! πŸ™‚

We have central heat and I’m thankful for it but I wouldn’t give up our woodstove for anything. It’s messy for sure but I love the feel of woodheat!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend with sunny skies!!

  3. Lasagna sounds like a perfect meal for this weather! We’ve had the heat on, too, with a 40 degree temperature drop this week. It feels SO good to me to clear things out! And when it happens by accident, you get the benefit without the work:) Enjoy your weekend, Barbara!

  4. Hi Barbara,
Yummmm, lasagna. That is a delicious, festive meal. Glad it worked out for everyone to meet up so you could make this. Have you ever made it with ravioli instead of lasagna noodles? That is a fun, quick, and tasty rendition as well.

I like to mainly stay home on the weekends, too. It feels so good to get home chores done so they don’t have to be done during the week. But a change up in the schedule is also a treat.

I am also one who appreciates the ease of central heat and air conditioning!

I probably won’t get around to writing my own FFF. I have been busy decluttering, getting ready for a 3 week vacation and combating asthma/allergies. BUT I just HAD to see the blessings my fellow FFFers are reporting this week. Have a great week.

  5. we have central air and heat but i would LOVE a woodstove!! i just love the scent of wood smoke!! ha! weekends at home are the best in my opinion, especially as it gets cold. but having something fun to do is nice too!

yay for organizing and giving things away no longer needed.

lasagna sounds good but we no longer eat beef so i do vegetarian or bison. it is so good! havent made it in a long time!
    happy weekend

  6. Yummy lasagna. It is neat how things like that come together. I’m also happy to hear that you have plans for the weekend! That is always fun. We spent our weekend last weekend looking for some furniture, but this weekend hubby is going to be cutting firewood and I am going to be working on food (sweet treats) to send to College Boy. πŸ™‚

Missed hearing about Timothy this week. πŸ™‚ Just thought you should know. πŸ™‚

  7. You’ll forgive me if the thought of turning on the furnace or the oven makes me break out in a sweat. It was 6:30am the other morning and I had to drive to work with the air conditioning running.

I’m sure your home-made lasagna was greatly appreciated. And I love your idea of accumulating a give pile ready to go when it gets big enough for a trip. Hope your blue skies keep for your weekend plans.

  8. I have a vegan lasagna recipe that I use occasionally. Now I’m craving lasagna!
Oh yes, central AC and central heating–those really are luxuries!
    Hurray for blue skies!

  9. I looove lasagna and haven’t made it in ages. Hmmm, maybe this weekend! Yes, I am thankful for heating too. Clearing out stuff is always so uplifting and makes one feel good.

I love hearing from you. I've had to turn on comment moderation. Comments will appear here after I see and approve them.
