Friday’s Fave Five

FFF daisies
It’s Friday, time to look back over the blessings of the week with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story and other friends.

It’s been a busy week! Here are some of the best parts:

1. Labor Day. It was nice to have a Monday off and an excuse for grilled burgers with the usual accompaniments. Jason, Mittu, and Timothy had not been feeling well for nearly a week, but were able to come over that evening.

2. Getting my physical over with. Not something I look forward to, but it’s nice to get it over with for another year. No major issues this time, thankfully. And I even had some good news: My cholesterol numbers were much improved from last time. The only major change I made was switching to oatmeal and whole wheat toast for breakfast most mornings (as opposed to the bacon and egg sandwiches I used to have…).

3. Successful blood draws and nurses who pray over them. My veins don’t like to give up their contents. It usually takes a few attempts for a nurse to draw blood from them. This time, just before the third try, the nurse prayed, “Lord Jesus, help us,” and when the blood finally flowed, she said, “Thank you, Jesus.”

4. Finally getting a haircut. The stylist I like only works two days a week because she has young children and wants to be with them rather than working full time. I support and applaud that, and I really like her personally. But sometimes it’s hard to get in on the days she’s there. Our schedules came together this week, though, and I feel less shaggy. 🙂

5. Getting a number of little things done: getting a package to the post office, making a couple of deliveries, clearing accumulated clutter off a counter, and doing some rearranging in the pantry. I had requested for my birthday these plastic baskets with handles. They hold some of the small, loose items in the pantry, and the handle makes it easier to pull them out to get what I need.

Bonus: Jason sent me this photo of Timothy “having a meeting.” His daddy works from home, so he’s seen plenty of such meetings. 🙂

Happy Friday!

  1. It’s so beneficial to count our blessings, isn’t it? It does so much good for our hearts. The picture of your grandson is adorable! Congrats on lowering your cholesterol numbers- trying to do the same! 😉 Blessings to you.

  2. I’m hoping that Timothy’s “meeting” was a successful one! 🙂 Glad to hear that your exam was a good one and your cholesterol down. Good for you! My hair is still growing and I’m not letting anyone near it until I’ve figured out what style I want. It’s getting shaggy though!

  3. What a special nurse you had doing your blood draw, Barbara! That is such a blessing. And I totally understand how you feel about having your physical behind you for another year. I know they are necessary, but it still doesn’t make it pleasant.

I had great news regarding my hairdresser this week. The shop where she worked locally closed down because the owner took a job elsewhere and my hairdresser opened a shop in her home, but it was quite a distance for me to drive to. She called me Monday to tell me she is going to open up the shop where she worked from locally again! I’m thrilled because I really need a haircut!

Don’t you just love those days when you can a lot of little things taken care of? I know I do…I don’t have them always nagging at me in the back of my mind that way.

Loved the picture of Timothy having his meeting!

  4. Glad they managed to draw your blood and that your check up went well. Love the pic of Timothy. Those baskets look very handy. I have some where the handle is integrated so the content part of the container isn’t square but they work better in my cupboards. I love being organised. Have a good weekend.

  5. Praise God that you had a believing nurse!! I always have to ask for a child’s needle as the nurse always has trouble finding my little veins, that is such a huge blessing to have someone pray over you!! And congrats on the lower numbers!

It must feel so good to have your little jobs done AND your hair done all in the same week!! I’m with you n the hair dresser….good for her for just working part time…i loved being a stay at home mom….miss those days!!

Timothy is just adorable and how fun to have a meeting just like daddy!!! Sooooo cute! Was that Cocoa in his cup?

    Enjoy the weekend.

  6. Thank you for your kind words about my daughter’s wedding and my not feeling well. It was a nice surprise to come on line after a long bout of the flu and see such caring comments from the blogging world. Timmy looks very busy at his meeting. He is so cute.

  7. I want to comment on a couple of other posts I read. The Wonky Donkey is hysterical. The way the grandma laughs makes me laugh! I am quite impressed that she can read those adjectives so well. I tried and couldn’t get it.

Ad the other thing was the story about Helen and the water bottle and doll. Wow. Such faith from a 10-year-old.

The photo of Timothy is adorable. I had to laugh out loud when I noticed that your business man even had a cup of “coffee.” So glad Timothy and his family were able to come over last Sunday despite not feeling well during the week. Family time is always a blessing.

You sure did get a lot of things done. That feels so good, doesn’t it? And you even got a haircut. That is something I need to do as well. I like the new baskets that you got. It looks like that would make it so much easier to get things out of the pantry.

Hurray on having an unremarkable checkup except for the cholesterol number. Going down is always good!

    Have a great week.

  8. So cute when the kids mimic their parent’s jobs.
How awesome to have a praying nurse through something that is usually a difficult thing. That is so awesome. And praise God for the good check up report. Getting little things done really does feel good.

  9. Oh yeah, those blood draws. I’m glad yours was easy this time and that the results were so promising! (I watch my cholesterol with great concerns, too)
    Timothy is always so cute!

  10. What a cute picture of Timothy as “business man” I had my son and grandson here for a short weekend. Toby grows and grows he is now 7 1/2 and measures 55 inches !! Soon he will be as tall as his mother, lol !

I love hearing from you. I've had to turn on comment moderation. Comments will appear here after I see and approve them.
