Friday’s Fave Five

FFF fall background

It’s Friday, time to look back over the blessings of the week with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story and other friends.

This week has gone by in a blur. Jim was out of town almost 4 full days. He usually gets up in the middle of the night to turn his mom over (to avoid bedsores since she can’t turn herself). I don’t know how he does that and still functions for work the next day – I felt like a zombie after just three nights, even with opportunities to nap in the daytime. But we all survived the week. Here are a few favorite spots:

1. My dear daughter-in-law came over one night with Jason and Timothy while Jim was gone and made nachos for all of us, then sent shepherd’s pie over another night. With having the full care of Jim’s mom, it was nice to be relieved in the area of cooking. And then they brought dinner over Thursday night as well!

2. Safety for all. Jim’s flights went well and we had no major issues while he was gone.

3. A helpful customer service representative. There was a problem on one of Jim’s flights that not only wasn’t handled, but both the flight attendant and the pilot seemed flippant about it. Jim contacted the airline after he got home. So often when you talk to a company about a problem, they just want to give you a coupon and be done with it, without really listening and addressing the problem. But the rep he talked with listened and took it seriously.

4. Gluten free blondies. Baked goods are the hardest things to make gluten-free with the right texture and taste. I tried this recipe, and they were wonderful! Some gluten free things taste ok the first day, but get worse by the day: these stayed good until they were all gone. Definitely a keeper.

5 Cooler temperatures. I’ve been saying for weeks that it doesn’t feel like fall yet – now it finally does! We have temperatures in the 60s in the daytime and 40s at night this week. I love having a space between the extremes of summer and winter.

Happy Friday!

  1. Oh praise a God that your husband had a safe trip and the airline representative took him seriously.

And how thoughtful of your DiL to bring you some dinners.

I love the warm days and cool nights of autumn too. I just got home from work, about 3:30 pm and it was only 62 in the house so i turned on the heat to warm up the floors. My window near the bed will be open for sleeping tonight though even if just a little!! I love the fresh air!

    Happy weekend.

  2. I know I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating…your daughter-in-law is a gem! Helpful customer service reps can be hard to come by. Your experience is encouraging. I’m always at a loss for good gluten free desserts when I host book club at my house. I enjoy the cooler temps too!

  3. That’s nice of your daughter in law to take over the cooking ! It’s very difficult having such a sick person at home but sometimes there is no other choice. We are still in summer and in the 80F unbelievable but I am happy about it !

  4. Oh my, that’s a lot that someone needs to get up each night to turn MIL. Bless your husband for usually doing it — and you for taking over the duty this week! And yes, what a marvelous daughter in law you have! Cooler weather has arrived here too. Hopefully our leaves will start turning soon. At this point most everything still looks green, which is a bit strange this late in the year.

  5. I’m glad your DIL stepped in to help you out this week, sounds like you had your hands full. Good that hubby travelled safe and hopefully got the problem sorted out. It’s been unseasonably warm here the last fews days but due to change after the weekend. It’s nice but I like to know where I am with the weather and this last month has been all over the place.

  6. That DIL of yours is a gem among women. I’m so glad you’re close to her to bless you as she does. And I bet you blessed her with those GF blondies. I’ve clicked on the link. Looking forward to rummaging around that blog. I’m smiling at the 20 degree difference between your fall temps and ours. We’re pretty excited (well, I am) when temps dip into the 60s at night 😉

  7. How wonderful to have a helpful customer rep. It is great to be taken seriously and really listened to. I had to deal with an issue this week, and the reps were anything but helpful!

That is an act of love to get up at night to turn your mom-in-law. ( would have been TIRED, too, if I had such a task. So glad it went okay and that your hubby is now home safe and sound able to take back that task.

I am saving the blondie recipe for another time. They LOOK amazing.

A Cracker Barrel has opened up about 30 minutes away from my house. I had to deliver something nearby CB so I wanted to stop in for a piece of coca cola cake to go. You have mentioned it a couple of times and it stuck in my brain. Unfortunate;y the line was too long so I didn’t get a piece. Next time. I just wanted you to know that I was thinking about you on Thursday. And I said a prayer for you and your family.

  8. What a blessing Mittu is taking that burden off of you! Praise God for safe flights for Jim and that he was able to get a good customer service rep when he needed one. Hopefully you have a nice restful weekend.

I love hearing from you. I've had to turn on comment moderation. Comments will appear here after I see and approve them.
