Friday’s Fave Five

It’s Friday, time to look back over the blessings of the week with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story and other friends.

It seems like we’re having round two of colds. Jim is mainly over his except for a lingering cough, especially if he talks a lot. But mine is starting up in earnest with a sore throat and congestion. :-/ I am hoping and praying it doesn’t get as severe or last as long as Jim’s.

On last week’s FFF, many of you commented on my mention of live streaming a wedding. I wanted to explain that the wedding took place in a church that was set up to live stream their services, and the church just offered that technology for the wedding as well. Since the couple has friends from all over the country, it was nice for those of us who couldn’t come to be able to watch.

On to this week’s favorites:

1. Early voting. Though there is something exciting about participating in election day with the whole country, realistically, it’s nice to vote when it’s not so busy and it fits in the schedule better.

2. An impromptu get-together. Our church gets out much earlier than my son and daughter-in-law’s but they had to leave early last week. We ended up being nearby each other and stopped for lunch together.

3. An unexpected gift. While my son and his family were out shopping one day, Timothy saw a little stuffed bird. My daughter-in-law said he kept walking over to look at it. They asked him about it, and he wanted to get it for Grandma.

4. Store apps. It’s so nice to get coupons that can be scanned from your phone rather than having to cut out and keep up with several pieces of paper.

5. Halloween is not my favorite holiday, but we have gotten into it more in recent years. Timothy dressed up like Batman, and his family went to the mall, where several stores passed out candy. It was nice for them to have a safe, free place to go. They came over afterwards to “trick or treat” at our house and showed us their pictures from the evening.

Happy Saturday!

  1. I don’t always comment, but I always read and enjoy your Fave Five!

In regard to the live stream, I wanted to add a quick note as to how that technology has been a blessing to us. Our grandchildren’s piano recital was three time zones away from us, but it was held in a church and was live streamed for some family members unable to attend. What a joy to us to be able to see and hear!

  2. I need to get on board with the store apps. I know it would make my life easier, but I’m so resistant to new things. Your grandson is so sweet and thoughtful. We always have a steady stream of trick-r-treaters on Halloween, mostly just our neighborhood kids. It’s nice to have the option of things like “Trick-r-Trunk”, which a lot of churches in our town do, setting up in the parking lot and everyone decorates their trunks and pass out candy! I would prefer that option if I had small kids today.

  3. That bird is so cute!!!! I just love it and what a sweetie of a grandson to think of you!! Shows how special you are to him!!

I pray you feel better soon. There seems to be stuff going around up here too. I had some kind of stomach virus one night earlier in the week and my hubby has had a cough.

How fun to have Timothy over for trick or treat!

    Enjoy the weekend.

  4. I hope you and your husband both get feeling 100% again soon! Yay for early voting! Around here, the early voting lines look so long that I am waiting for the regular day. Usually that’s not too busy, strangely enough. That really is sweet about Timothy choosing the bird for you! I think he made a great choice as it really looks at home there by the birdhouse 🙂

  5. I think there are less and less children doing trick&treat, there are so many crazy people around now everywhere ! How cute of Timothy to choose this bird for his grandma !!

  6. Aww what a charming little present and how sweet that Timothy thinks of you. Every store in our mall, and there are over 100 gives out candy. They have a staff at the front of the store doing that and there is a big ring of kids and parents going around the whole mall. It’s nice around here because you just never know what kind of weather we will end up with on that night. I wish all stores had apps so that I wouldn’t have to carry a bazillion rewards cards in my wallet.

  7. While I was at the painting class, I started having cold symptoms–had to stay away from people. Now I’m fine. I’m not sure what helped as I took all kinds of stuff to help me.
What an adorable gift Timothy picked out for you! He must be observant and know Grandma’s taste!

I love hearing from you. I've had to turn on comment moderation. Comments will appear here after I see and approve them.
