Friday’s Fave Five

It’s Friday, time to look back over the blessings of the week
with Susanne and other friends at Living to Tell the Story .

I’m going to just jump right in with this week’s favorites:

1. Cooler weather. After saying for weeks that it hasn’t felt like fall yet, finally we’re down into the 70s during the day, 50s-60s at night. By contrast, the week before we had three days of record high heat.

2. Rain. I don’t know the statistics for how long we’ve been without rain, but it has been quite a while. We finally got a bit last weekend and are due for more tomorrow.

3. Watching football. I never (willingly) watched football before moving here, but it’s hard not to get caught up in UT Vols fandom. We had been able to watch their games via the ESPN app on our Apple TV for years. But when we tried this season, a notice would come up saying that we’d have to pay more to watch, which we weren’t willing to do. Last Saturday night I checked, on a whim, and the game was on! I hope that continues.

4. Going for a walk. Last weekend when the kids were here, Timothy wanted to take a walk after dinner. It was nice out, and there were all sorts of crunchy leaves on the ground that I hadn’t noticed before (I remarked, “I guess it really is fall!”) I’ve noticed a lot more fallen leaves, but not much fall color yet. I so hope that comes before all the leaves go—I depend on that beauty to carry me through the barrenness of the winter landscape.

5. Timothy’s first lost tooth was an experience. 🙂 He was okay with it being loose until it started hurting and then bleeding a bit. He (and his parents) were much relieved when it finally came out.

Happy Friday!

  1. Isn’t it amazing the joy our grandchildren bring us? I love hearing about the things you do with Timothy. I bet he looks even more adorable with that tooth out. 🙂 I miss those days.

  2. Ha ha, yeah, some of those loose teeth take so long to come out and become kind of … gross 🙂 Glad Timothy finally lost it! Cooler weather here too, and tonight even cooler air moves in. I like it! Happy weekend to you!

  3. Oh those first losses of a tooth are tough on some children. Glad it finally came out. We’ve had below normal temps this week as a cold front moved through. In fact, the other night we set a record for cold. Down in the ’20’s over night. My nice pumpkins in unusual colors of light green and peach got frosted and now they are a deep dark color. Oh well. Nature has a mind of it’s own.

  4. Aw…..i remember when my oldest lost her first baby tooth! It fell out when she bit into a pop tart i packed for one of her snacks in kindergarten! She said she was scared cause she saw blood. Yay for Timothy and his first lost tooth!

Yay for some rain and cooler weather and crunchy leaves. Our leaves are at peak color now in most of the mountains here but here in my town our trees are just starting to turn those vibrant reds, yellows and oranges. I love it! God’s handiwork!

    Enjoy the weekend!

  5. Losing that first tooth is quite a milestone. I hope the next ones are easier for Timothy — and mom and dad:) We had our first snowfall this week, but today it’s all melted and we’re back to fall weather. Hope it lingers for a long while!

  6. Timothy is growing up. Losing his first tooth is such a milestone. Don’t you love the missing tooth smile?
How fun to go on a walk, crunching through the leaves, with your Timothy (and other family members, too).
That was a surprising blessing that you were able to watch the game for free. I hope along with you that the games continue to be free.
Do you like the rain, Barb? It’s nice that you guys got a little bit. I’m hoping you see beautiful leaves along with the falling ones this week.

  7. I’m glad you got much needed rain – we have had plenty and I’m happy to share! lol. Poor Timothy, losing that first tooth sounds like a bit of an ordeal. Did the tooth fairy come?

  8. I can’t believe he is old enough already to be losing baby teeth….I fear we will not have much Fall this year before cold starts in….The porch has to be blown off every day now and the Maple Tree doesn’t have much in the way of color…I noticed just the beginning of some in the top of my neighbor’s tree…it always turns before ours….lack of rain and cooler nights are to blame….
