Friday’s Fave Five

It’s Friday, time to count the blessings of the week
with Susanne and other friends at Living to Tell the Story.

Here we are near the end of November already, and Thanksgiving next week. But we don’t have to wait til Thursday to be thankful! Here are a few things I’ve appreciated the last few days:

1. My youngest son got a job! He has been working on it for a long time, and finally got a “yes!” He has to wait for results from a background check and drug test, but those shouldn’t be problems.

2. Dinner and a movie at home. Jason and Mittu brought over dinner last Friday and then we all watched Klaus together. It was a pretty cute movie.

3. Ladies Bible study group met last Saturday. Always a joy.

4. Sweaters and throw blankets. This time of year, they add just the right layer of warmth.

5. Sleep. For some reason, I woke up in the middle of the night and then couldn’t get back to sleep for 2-3 hours. :/ I went back to bed this morning after Jim left, so I don’t feel quite as much like a zombie as I did at first. I’m thankful I have the kind of schedule that allows me to go back to bed, but I regret losing daytime hours to sleep that should have come during the night.

Bonus: A text from Jason about my grandson, Timothy. Looks like someone is eager for Christmas. 🙂

  1. So glad that Jesse got a job! Would love to hear about it sometime when you get a chance. I know all about those middle of the night wake-ups and lack of sleep hours. 😕 I love Timothy’s stocking idea! Way less to fill! 😂 Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

  2. Congratulations to your son on his job! I know he’s worked hard and I’m glad that it is working out for him.

I have those nights also, Barbara when sleep doesn’t come. I was having them quite frequently for a while so I started using that time to pray for whatever was on my heart at the time and trying to review Scripture memory work. I am glad you were able to go back to bed this morning and hopefully you woke up feeling refreshed.

Love Timothy’s excitement for Christmas! SO cute…but he needs bigger stockings! 🙂

  3. I was just going to say the same as Dianna about the times you can’t sleep in the night. I have learned that this is a particular prompt from God to pray for someone. You can ask Him just who it is needs prayer right then, or pray for some of the more pressing things/people you have had on your mind. Sometimes He gives me a clue by putting someone in a dream that I would never have thought of! Why was I dreaming about …? Oh, ok, I will pray for them.
One night I was really burdened to pray for the Queen. Me? Ok. and then the next day, the Palace stated that the Queen had a knee replacement the previous day! (Kept silent til it had already happened.) I figure she must have been in pain or uncomfortable in some way. Still? Me asked to pray for the Queen? Cool!

  4. Oh praise God for the job offer for your son!! that is indeed a BLESSING!!
and how stinkin’ cute are those socks hanging up????? oh that’s just precious.
its’ so funny a couple ladies have mentioned prayer in the middle of the night. Every night this week except one, I’ve woken up with a heavy heart…..so just started praying for all the people I know who might need it lately. I did fall back asleep but it seemed like in no time that darn alarm clock was ringing and I had to get ready to go to work. Someday I will retire from teaching!

I love my ladies small group…glad you got to go to one too!
I love movie nights! I haven’t seen that movie but i heard it’s a cute one.
    Happy THanksgiving!!

  5. Timothy cracks me up!! How wonderful about your youngest finding a job. With my own kids growing up, I’m seeing how parenting doesn’t end when kids are adults. We moms still worry and feel concerned for them. I’m with you on the blankets too. My “organ church” gave me a blanket they’d made this week since I had surgery a couple of months ago. I have enjoyed using it when I sit on the couch all week. So cozy!

  6. Your grandson is so adorable. I love his idea of stockings.
It is a blessing to have a schedule where you can catch up on sleep when you need to. If I’ve had a bad night of sleep, I’m able to take a nap in a comfy chair in my office.
Family time is the best. So glad you had that this week. I saw the Klaus movie and wondered about it. But I went with the Knight before Christmas and it was a cute movie as well.
    Have a great week, Barbara.

    • Oh, I should have let you know about that! I’m sorry to keep you hanging. 🙂 No, the Huntsville one was one that didn’t work out–I can’t remember the specifics now. Thankfully, this one is not far. Though it would have been nice to get out that way and meet you. 🙂

  7. Oh I had to laugh at that picture of stockings! Congratulations to your son on his job. I hope the extra sleep helped yesterday and you slept better last night. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

  8. Timothy’s stockings are SO cute! I like his idea!
Hurray for your son getting his job! The wait for the background check and drug test usually aren’t too long.
    Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

  9. Oh the sock picture gave me a good chuckle. Kids are so funny! Congrats to your son on his job! That is exciting news. Family movie time is always fun. Glad to know the Klaus movie is good. I might show it to the dayhome kids on movie day.
