Another week goes by with a whoosh. I’m thankful Susanne at Living to Tell the Story hosts this weekly pause to stop and count our blessings. Here are a few of mine:
1. Timothy’s birthday!
His mom made this amazing Minecraft gluten-free Oreo cheesecake for his birthday.
We met them for lunch at Timothy’s favorite pizza place, then went to their house for a birthday dinner of fish tacos. All in all, I think he had a nice day. π
2. Internet work in the area completed. We received texts on several different days that our Internet provider was doing updates in our area which might cause an interruption or loss of service. It wasn’t noticeable most of the days, but wouldn’t you know the biggest loss of service occurred the morning I had a Zoom call. I was able to tie my iPad into the hot spot on my phone, and everything went well. We finally received a text that they were done.
3. Rummaging through old cards and mementos. I was looking for a particular picture that I had taken out of a photo album and then hadn’t put back in the right place (a bad habit that I am striving not to do any more!) I thought for sure I had used it on my computer or Facebook, but could not find it in on any digital formats. I checked the photo albums it could have come from, and it wasn’t there. I had a couple of boxes with old cards and letters with a few photos and looked through them. I didn’t find the picture I wanted there, but I had fun looking through everything else in the box. I didn’t let myself open every card and note—I didn’t have that kind of time. But I found a few treasures. And I did get them organized into groups from each recipient. (What do you do with old cards?)
4. Finally finding the picture I was looking for in time to use it in yesterday’s post. π I had a copy of it in a scrapbook I had made for Jason when he graduated from high school.
5. Swiss Ham Ring-Around, one of our must-have dishes using leftover ham from Easter.
Happy Friday!
Happy Friday to you, too! I always enjoy your messages. Have a blessed weekend! π
Thanks so much, Melissa. π Hope you have a blessed weekend, too!
Wow! What a fun and inventive cheesecake! I love Timothy’s expression (and that dimple!). I’ve been craving fish tacos for a while and you’ve clinched it.
Well done, you, on the hotspot save! I don’t do it often and usually fumbling about a bit until I remember.
Old cards. Sigh. That’s a tough one. The ones with notes or message that reflect something of that era get saved. I might frame the front of the card if it’s especially a fave. And I’ve occasionally taken photos of things. But with no kids or family who’d want these things to consider, I’m resigned to throwing them out.
Even with kids, it’s hard to know–I don’t think they are as sentimental as I am. π Plus they wouldn’t know a lot of the people I have older cards and notes from. But maybe that’s a helpful deciding factor as well–I don’t want to leave them a bunch of stuff to have to sort through.
I love seeing Timothy grow up before my eyes! Cake looks wonderful. My mom is/was a saver, so I thhave many, many cards from my youth. Currently they’re in the basement — some in scrapbooks, others on their own. I’ve looked/read through them before, but it’s hard to throw them away. Still, I don’t want my kids to have to go through and deal with them, so eventually I guess they will hit the trash π¦
What a fun Friday post! That Timothy, he looks like a sweet kid. I’m glad you found your picture. I’ve done that sort of thing before. I drive myself crazy with all the time I waste looking for the thing (picture or otherwise) that I didn’t bother to put back in its right place. I’m working to make that my habit too. π I hope you have a wonderful weekend, Barbara!
Happy Birthday to Timothy! My grandson also turned nine on Sunday the 16th. He shares a birthday with my daughter. I wrote about it on my Tuesday post. He also had a Minecraft birthday party.
Happiest of birthdays to Timothy!! next year: double digits!!! WOW i remember when you announced his birth. That cake is amazing. I should show it to my oldest daughter’s friend Nathanael. He LOVES mine craft.
Glad your internet is back up.
old cards….I used to save every.single.card. Dave and the girls bought me. In fact I have most of them saved in a hat box……that a honeymoon item came in from my bridal shower in 1990. I have saved every single Mothers Day card, many birthday cards, and some special anniversary cards. I don’t save as many nowadays but if there’s a special note from the girls, i definitely save it…i have some taped into a journal as the hat box got too full.
My goodness, how is Timothy nine already?! A very happy birthday to him. Sounds like a fun day to celebrate him. I hate when internet goes out right in something important. I would never have known to do what you did. Good for you. I have an old card box too where I kept every card I ever got though have decluttered it a bit to just special ones from immediate family. I remember saving that ham recipe but then forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder.
Whoosh is the way I would describe most weeks. π
Timothy is looking so grown up! Nine! Happy Birthday to him!
Cards? Well, I keep many of them. Right now, they’re mostly collected in one drawer, but I know I need to reorganize them. With Christmas cards, I usually keep a yearly file of who sent to us and who we sent to, and then I cut them up to use for gift labels.
Glad you found the photo!
Have a good week.
Wow, Timothy is 9? Happy Birthday! That cake does look amazing. Mittu is so talented. I’m glad your internet worked on Wednesday. I’m sure it was a hassle for you, but we couldn’t tell it on our end. I go through my old photos periodically and always enjoy it. But what I NEED to do is get more organized with my digital photos. Since around 2018, my photos have gotten totally out of hand. π
Belated birthday wishes to Timothy. That cake looks delicious. Glad he had a good day and you found the photo you were looking for. Hope your weekend was good.
