  1. Powerful message. I am thankful that when I feel like a failure, God doesn’t view me that way. God loves me. He guides me to the right path in life. Have a blessed Sunday dear friend! 🙂

    • There’s a different, too, between failing and being a failure. We all fail at times, and that may make us feel like total failures. But we’re not–unless we grow stubborn and insist on our own way instead of yielding to His.

  2. Really a hopeful and helpful post, Barbara. So true that we can fail where (we think) we are strong.

I can imagine your disappointment and surprise when you struggled in college. No wonder learning that God can use failures was so encouraging.

  3. Such a great message Ms. Barbara. More than an encouraging word, you offer us an edifying message of hope. I learned years ago, and still need to be reminded of this now and again, that we should view F-A-I-L as an acronym, meaning First Attempt Is Learning. Each time we fail, or feel as though we have, it’s important to remind ourselves that failure is a part of human life. The fall caused the fail, if you will. The secret is remembering that we aren’t defined by our failure, but from how we learned from it and applied that learning to the next instance. God’s blessings ma’am.

  4. This hit me right where I am this morning. I’m in a transition season, and I’m taken back to how I felt as a youngun: I feel paralyzed at the thought of failing—of doing it wrong or stepping out wrong. But just yesterday I was reminded that God has been in the whole process. Now I can look back over that time and see how God guided me and used my mess-ups anyway. He’ll do the same now. Thank you for the encouragement today, Barbara!

  5. I knew all this philosophically — but you laid out the “evidence” so clearly; what a wonderful message! Again I noted how similar we are with your school memories. My elementary school C’s came in handwriting 🙂 In college, I changed majors many times because once I got something less than an A, I felt “what’s the use?” with that major. Oh my. I wish I’d been able to read this post back in the 1980s!

  6. *I should say I did finally get the hang of studying for college and managing my time (though that’s an ongoing learning process). I was making B’s and some A’s by my junior and senior year. My grade point average still suffered, but at least it wasn’t as disastrous as it might have been. 🙂

  7. Yes, I totally agree with your other readers.

  10. Barbara, I love this! Boy has Jesus ever used my failures in a big way. And Simon Peter— ya, just gotta love him. This is so full of encouragement and when I look back at my failures I now see he was right there with me.
Thanks bunches for sharing this with Sweet Tea & Friends this month.
