Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

Happy first Friday of December! It was nice to have a buffer week between Thanksgiving and the first of December. Though life is always busy, December is especially so. It’s even more important to schedule pauses for remembering what’s important and counting our blessings. Susanne at Living to Tell the Story hosts an opportunity to do that with Friday’s Fave Five.

Here are a few of mine:

1. Decorating for Christmas with the family. I thought about waiting til next week, just from tiredness. But I am glad we went ahead. I am so thankful that the family helps with this, even though Jason and Mittu have their own house to decorate. Not only do many hands make light work, but it’s fun to reminisce as we do. Mittu made a great lunch. for us all.

2. Lunch with Melanie. We try to get together once a month or so, but it had been a long while. We had gift cards to Red Lobster and enjoyed catching up. By the way, she had a birthday this week! Some of you know her through FFF or other blogging means—feel free to pop over and wish her a belated happy birthday.

3. A good eye exam with no new issues or problems.

4. Hot oil hair treatment. I have very dry skin and have to put lotion all over year-round. But cold, dry weather really does a number on me. I couldn’t put lotion on my scalp, however. Then I remembered I used to use VO5 hot oil treatment—a little tube you put in a cup of hot water and then massage its contents into your scalp before shampooing. I even had some in the bathroom cabinet. It felt so good.

5. Online shopping. We got a good chunk of our Christmas shopping done this week, and now enjoy receiving the deliveries!

That’s our week. How was yours?

  1. If you had searched the world over for a daughter-in-law you would never have found anyone to compare with Mittu. What a blessing she is! Glad that you decorated family style, especially with your husband still recuperating from his surgeries. I had my eye exam earlier this month and one eye had changed quite a lot. It’s taking some time to get used to my new glasses.
Thank you for mentioning about the hot oil hair treatment. I need to look for that next time we are out. I have dry skin too…and it seems no matter how much water I drink, it still remains dry. Have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

  2. I love your list of blessings. God is so good. I didn’t know it was Melanie’s birthday! I’ll pop over!

Love that your family helps you decorate. I miss having my oldest daughter living here as she used to help me. Although she did come over Sunday for dinner and helped me a little bit before needing to go back to her apt to sleep as she was fighting a cold. that was a blessing to me…her help with the piano and the tree.

I also use a good moisturizer on my skin year round although I don’t tend to get dry scalp or dry hair. I know other women who use that same oil treatment you use and they love it!

I hope you have a wonderful restful weekend.

  3. I think that’s the best part — reminiscing and enjoying each other’s company as you decorate. Glad it got done earlier than later.

I’d never been to Melanie’s and got a tour of her sweet decorations. Thanks for her link!

Yes, I remember those little tubes of oil! How lovely to have rediscovered it and enjoy its benefits.

Glad you got shopping done without slogging through stores. Sometimes even online shopping is challenging when just the right thing isn’t available.

  4. I met Melanie years ago when we both had our websites and part of a country graphics group. We have been in a few other groups. One year we were in an ornament exchange, and she gave me a cute Minnie ornament. How nice that you two can meet up. Enjoy the season!

  5. Hi! It sounds like you had a nice week getting ready for Christmas. I have been doing a lot of my shopping online as well and I love the convenience of it all. Now we are just waiting for all of the deliveries. So glad you had a good eye exam. You remind me that both hubby and I are overdue for eye exams. We need to get going on that after the holidays. I am glad that you still get together with Melanie. I hope you have a good weekend. See you again soon!

  6. Good reminder about the VO5. I haven’t tried that in years, but it would be helpful during these dry winter months. It’s fun getting all those brown boxes on the doorstep, isn’t it? Mine have started to arrive, too 🙂

  7. I wish I already had my Christmas decorating done. We’ve decorated the tree, but that’s it. I likely won’t do a whole lot anyway, but I do have a few more things I’d like to set out before we get too far into December. I’ve never tried a hot oil treatment, but it does sound wonderful! I’ll have to look into that. Hope you’re doing well!

  8. The hot oil sounds like a treat! Yay for decor being up and for a wonderful helper 🙂 And you’re really knocking out the medical appointments — glad they are behind you.

  9. Most of our decorating is done–just need to put the ornaments on the tree.
You’re ahead of me on the shopping. I think I’m over half, though…I’m a bit stumped on things for stocking stuffers.
Lunch with Melanie sounds like a great time. Spending time with friends is a great blessing.
    Have a good week!

  10. What a nice list of blessings. So nice that your family comes and helps out with your decorating too. I’m unmotivated this year to decorate and I think that is why, family all lives away from us now. Nice that you and Melanie caught up again. I haven’t been to Red Lobster in years. Good for you for getting most your shopping done already.
