Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

It’s time again to count the week’s blessings with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story.

1. Thanksgiving crafts with Tim. I often have some little crafty thing to do on Thanksgiving to help wile away the long hours of cooking and then the time between the meal and dessert. I got a couple of kits at Hobby Lobby, forgetting Jason, Mittu, and Timothy weren’t going to be with us for Thanksgiving this year. So I got them out when we watched Timothy last Friday.

I started on the little pumpkin house, but it was hard to do! It was made of Styrafoam, with tabs from one piece going into the slots from another–but the tabs wouldn’t slide in. So I passed that on to Jim while Tim and I worked on the other pieces. Jim had to use toothpicks to push the tabs through and tape to hold them down on the inside. But it was cute when done, and everything else went together well.

I liked the little creatures, too, especially the fox.

Then we also had a kit for making fun faces with stickers and googly eyes.

I was thinking afterward that Timothy might think himself too old for these kinds of things before long. But I am glad he enjoyed them this year.

2. A free play. The Christian school associated with our church does a play a couple of times a year, and they invite the church, family, friends, etc. to a free showing of the final dress rehearsal. The kids performed a radio production version of It’s a Wonderful Life, complete with people manufacturing the sound effects. They did a great job. We were sitting near some other couples our age who joked about having a cheap date night. 🙂

3. Dinner out. After the play, Jim and I tossed around various ideas of where to go eat and ended up at Texas Roadhouse again. The food was so good. I had a grilled pork chop, baked potato, and salad, and Jim had grilled steak and shrimp with the same sides (and gave me a few of his shrimp). Plus they have these wonderful fluffy rolls and cinnamon butter. They even brought us some extra rolls and butter, so we had some to take home.

4. Leftovers. Jason and Mittu hosted their small group and had leftover roast, carrots, and potatoes, and apple pie, which they brought over to our house. They ate some with us and left the rest of the roast and vegetables for us.

5. An available appointment. In the not-so-good news department, I’ve been in atrial flutter for the last couple of days. 😦 I called the cardiologist to try to nip this in the bud this time and not let it go on for weeks like last time. At first they were talking about scheduling me for mid-December. I asked if I couldn’t get in the next few days, so they scheduled me for this morning. I’m probably going to end up having to have an ablation, which I really don’t want to do. But neither do I want to have this keep coming up. Thankfully, an ablation for atrial flutter is supposed to be a one-time thing, whereas an ablation for atrial fibrillation might have to be repeated.

I hope those of you in the US have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day next week! I wish you something good to eat, someone you love to eat it with, and much to be thankful for.

  1. It’s a Wonderful Life is my very favourite movie. How sweet to see it in a play like that. I will include you in my prayers this morning and hope that all goes well. It’s good to get it done early.

  2. I’ll be praying for wisdom, action, quick appointments, etc for the flutter/possible ablation. My dad had an ablation years ago and I don’t think has had any related issues since. The little Thanksgiving scene is so sweet! It’s kind of frustrating (I think) when a place makes a pretty difficult craft like that, since it’s clearly aimed at kids. Yours turned out great! I too love TX Roadhouse. Now I’m salivating over those rolls 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving!

    • Thanks so much for praying. I don’t know why I keep having problems with heart rhythm after an ablation 8 years ago, cardioversion 3 months ago, and all kinds of medicine. 😦

I used my leftover Texas Roadhouse roll in place of my sweet treat for the day. 🙂

  3. How fun to see the play It’s a Wonderful LIfe. A school around here did that a couple years ago and i heard it was “wonderful” (pun intended). We love the movie and often watch it after opening gifts and sharing a meal on Xmas Day.

That’s a cute activity to do with Timothy. My girls used to love those kinds of arts and crafts and did them until about age 14. They also used to write stories for their dolls and act them out all the way to about high school years. the dolls went from baby dolls at age 4-7 to those ugly Bratz dolls (I didn’t buy them! they were given at birthday parties or from aunts! hahah) until they were about 13-14. Some of the stories and play pieces still are in my basement along with each girl saving some of their dolls.

I used to love a good steak or a grilled pork chop. I haven’t had those meats since 2014 (for the beef) and 2016 (the pork) but my husband enjoys a pork chop every once in a while. I do love mashed potatoes and rolls though!! 🙂

I will lift you up in prayer this morning regarding your cardiology appt.

    Happy Thanksgiving!!

  4. Praying for your health needs even as we speak, and for peace as you consider the next right step, Barbara. Trusting that this will be cared for quickly.

Thanksgiving blessings to you and yours. There’s so much to be grateful for.

  5. Well, bummer on the atrial fibrillation! But if you can get it fixed and not have to deal with it, that would be great. Got you covered with prayer.

The craft project for Timothy was adorable! So cute. He and Jim did a good job.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” is one of my favorite Christmas stories. I’ll bet it was cute watching the church’s school kids do it. Even with sound affects! That must have been hilarious!

  6. Timothy is such a handsome young man. Seeing the picture of him with Jim brought back memories of when he was born and now, look at him…growing up so quickly!

Glad you and Jim had a fun date night. 🙂 I’m sure the performance was great!

Continuing prayer for you and your health, my friend. xx

  7. I’m glad Tim and your husband had a little project to do together, even if it might seem a bit young for him — the challenge of it, finding solutions, problem-solving… all good.

The sound effects part of the play sounds like a great idea for everyone to enjoy!

So nice that you could go out and have a great meal.

Praying your procedure (maybe an ablation) will solve the atrial flutter problem.

    • Thank you, Anne. Looks like an ablation won’t happen until January, so I hope the medicine works or God intervenes before then.

I enjoyed working on the Thanksgiving projects with Tim and Jim.

  8. It does look like Timothy had a fun time with the crafts. He may be growing up, but he is still ‘a kid’. I like the fox, too.

I think leftovers are the best kind of meal. You can enjoy the wonderful food and don’t have to cook.

I hope you get answers soon on your health issue and that all will go well.

  9. Your pumpkin house is adorable ! How nice to give you the “left overs” they were probably very good. Timothy is growing too when I think how difficult it was his start into life ! I don’t know exactly what you have, but maybe it’s better to take it out as the doctor suggests, then at least you will have no troubles anymore !
