Prayer Request

Prayer Request

Hello, friends,

I’ve mentioned that I am due to have ablations for atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. This is the week!

Some of you may remember that I had an ablation for atrial fibrillation about seven years ago. I knew it was possible to have that done more than once, but thought that only happened if the first one failed. Since then, I have learned that it’s not at all uncommon. Nerves grow back and make new pathways, so sometimes have to be “zapped” again.

Atrial flutter is new to me this year. The ablation for it is supposed to be a one-time thing. Since I had several weeks of atrial flutter in the spring and then again in the fall, we felt it would be best to go ahead and get that taken care of. And when I learned they could do both procedures at the same time, and I’d been having an increase in afib episodes, it seemed wise to go ahead and have both done at the same time.

One of my major concerns right now is exacerbation of some of my preexisting conditions, like IBS. I’d appreciate your prayers that, Lord willing, none of those things will be a problem, that everything would go well, that there would be no complications, that the procedures will accomplish what they’re supposed to, and that God would give me peace of heart and help me rest in Him.

I have some bookish posts prepared for the rest of this week–books read in 2025, my favorite reads of the year, and my reading challenge wrap-up. I hope to be back later this week with an update about how things went at the hospital and how I am doing.

Thank you so much. I appreciate you all!

  1. Barbara, I am praying for you and will continue. May God give you peace and healing within His perfect will. I am grateful that you have Jim by your side and that Jason and Mitu are nearby to lend a hand when needed. And, of course, Timothy!

  2. Dear Barbara

Just want you to know that I’ve prayed for you for this procedure. And though I don’t usually respond or comment on your posts, I also want to thank you for your faithfulness in this ministry. Your thoughtful and Bible-centred posts have often been used by God to encourage me. May you truly experience the Lord’s presence this week.

  3. You are in my prayers today. I do remember your sharing about your previous ablation, as I had 3 ablations on my occipital nerve. Even tho the occipital nerve was much easier than a heart ablation, your words were a comfort to me then. So I pray that the Lord would return that comfort to you now.

  4. Barbara,

I am praying for an excellent outcome to your upcoming procedures. May you have peace knowing the Lord is in control.

  5. Hi Barbara,

I’ve been praying for your procedure tomorrow since I received your Christmas letter.

By the way, thanks for including me on your Christmas card list. I enjoy learning of your family’s adventures of the previous year. Thank you for your work putting the letter together.

You did not receive a Christmas card from me this year because I was in the hospital with my own fib and flutter. Ugh……. As you know, it is no fun. Doctors shocked it back in, again. They keep increasing my meds until I move at the speed of a sloth.

I did not “comment” on your newsletter because it has no allowed me to do so for several years. No idea why and no one to help me figure it out. I am at the mercy of technology. Just thankful for what I can still do.

Prayers will continue for you tomorrow and beyond tomorrow.

Lord bless you for your willingness to share your praises and prayer requests ~~~~ Mary C. in Twin Falls, Idaho.

    • Oh no! I am so sorry you have been going through this, too! Has there been any talk of an ablation? From what I understand the cardioversion (shocking the heart) stops the immediate bout but doesn’t fix it or keep it from happening again. The ablation is supposed to help keep it under control for at least a few years, along with medicines. They had increased my medication, too, but I kept having “breakthrough” episodes.

I am so sorry about the commenting problems. My settings only require a name and email address. I don’t know why the system doesn’t cooperate sometimes. I have a few blogs I can’t comment on sometimes, either, and don’t know why. One keeps telling me I need to log into WordPress even if I already am logged in. Sigh. I am so glad you got through this time!

  6. Hi Barbara! I was off the grid yesterday, so just now seeing this. I’m praying that God will give you peace through all of this and that this will be a more permanent “fix” for your issues. Thanks for keeping us in the loop!

I love hearing from you. Leave comments here, and they will appear after I see and approve them. If you have trouble commenting, please let me know at my email address in the sidebar.
