Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

It’s been another cold week here in eastern TN, but not as bad as the one before. Here are some of the best parts of the last few days. I’m linking up with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, who started this great exercise of sharing weekly blessings.

1. Snow. I think we got between 5-6 inches last weekend. We were all stocked up with supplies, so we enjoyed looking at it through the windows. We had low temperatures for the next few days, keeping snow and ice around more than usual. But it is finally melting off.

I like how the solar lanterns look like ice cream cones.

We had to drip water from the faucets a few nights in a row, but, thankfully, the pipes remained safe.

2. Sledding video. I commented on our family text message thread that I had seen Facebook videos of people sledding and building snowmen, and I missed that activity here. Then Jason sent a video of himself sledding down their street. πŸ™‚

3. Good yearly physical. These days, physicals seem to be made up mainly of talk about lab work. πŸ™‚ Thankfully, mine was good this time! One that was a little off (thyroid) can be helped with a medication adjustment. And, interestingly, that *might* help with the heart issue.

Bonus: I did my fasting lab work the day before, then afterward went to Bojangles for my once-or-twice-a-year steak and egg biscuit and Bo-berry biscuit. The blueberry biscuit was in a heart shape for Valentine’s Day.

4. A phone call from a friend at church. She said she was thinking about me and decided to call. We had a nice visit.

5. Preliminary work on a project that’s been on my mind for a long time. I hope to share more soon!

Next week, we’re supposed to get up to 50 and 60 degrees! I can’t wait!

How was your week? Stay warm.

  1. Yes looking at pretty snow is one thing – having to get on with your daily lives while it’s there is another lol. Glad the medical check went well and you had a nice visit with a friend. Enjoy the weekend.

  2. Glad to know your physical went well and that it’s an easy adjustment for your meds.

YAY for snow! We actually wanted snow this winter to go do some snowshoeing (which I’ve only done once) but it’s been far too frigid (single digits although this week the high got up to 28 but I had client visits with the group I volunteer with so couldn’t get out to the trails). Next week things will start to slowly warm up so I’m hoping to get my snowshoes up to the state park where are good trails to use them.

We used to take our girls sledding on the few days we actually had enough snow and free time to take them. I miss those days!

I love when I get random phone calls from church friends. Glad you got to have a nice chat with your friend.

    HAPPY WEEKEND!

  3. Thank you for including a picture of your snow, Barbara. You had that last weekend, and we had not a single snowflake. This weekend we are getting the snow and hopefully you won’t get any of this. It’s snowing now as I type.

How fun that your son was enjoying sledding on his street!

I know what you mean about what a yearly physical is turning into. I’m glad to hear that your labs were good this time around…and how interesting that the thyroid being off and making an adjustment in the medication could help take care of the problems you’ve been enduring with your heart. I pray that it turns out to be like that for you.

Have a great weekend, my friend. xx

  4. That Bo-Berry biscuit looks wonderful! I’m sure you enjoyed it.

Good news about the good blood work. I know you’re glad to have that all done for the year.

We had a couple young people sled here at the complex. The hill wasn’t very steep but they looked like they were having fun.

Yay for the warmer temps next week! I can’t wait!

  5. Agree with Wendy above — I can enjoy looking at snow pictures from the safe seats, please! I’ve especially enjoyed videos of cats enjoying the snow, jumping into boxes to slide down snowy hillsides. Thankful you were well prepared for that experience with the snow.

Glad your annual went well and your afterwards treat was extra sweet. And that kind person who called just to chat. Sweet.

  6. Well now I’m excited to hear about your project! Glad your snow is on the way out. Ours was melting, but this morning we got 3 more inches which were unpredicted. This is stacking up to be a really snowy winter for us. That biscuit looks so good!

  7. I’m glad your snow has melted. Our 12 inches is still out there and we added more yesterday. Stay warm!

I loved that Jason was out sledding.

Good news on the wellness visit.

  8. Your snow is so pretty! We got a dusting, but the temps did get so low that many things closed for a few days. A new project sounds intriguing! πŸ™‚ I’ve recently started a new project as well, which is consuming a lot of my time. I thought I’d made space for it in my schedule, but I actually need to let a few more old things go so I don’t feel overwhelmed with my lack of time.

  9. I love getting videos of the grandchildren. It helps me feel that I’m not missing out on quite so much.

The biscuit looks delicious, and all the more so because of the shape:)

Excited to hear about your new project! And good for you on the lab work!

  10. We stayed warm yet again. I’m wishing for your snow. We are scary dry this winter. How fun to get the sledding video. That was a favorite activity of mine with the kids in the winter when they were little. Praise God for the good physical. We don’t have a Bojangles here but the biscuit looks delicious.
