Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

It’s the first Friday of March! Even though it is not officially spring yet, I couldn’t wait to use the spring FFF graphic. I’m joining Susanne at Living to Tell the Story to cultivate gratefulness by recounting God’s blessings of the week.

1. Running into an old friend at the store. I had dashed in to look for some Easter things while waiting for a prescription to be filled. We had a good chat for about 15-20 minutes and caught up with each other’s families and people we both knew. That brightened my whole week.

2. Dinner at Jason and Mittu’s house. Though we’ve gotten together at our house or other places, and they’ve made dinner for us several times, we had not been to their house since before Christmas for various reasons. Their central air was out for a while, I sprained something in my back earlier this year that made me unable to navigate the slope in their yard or their stairs, etc. So it was fun to visit over there.

3. Buds and blossoms. I’ve seen daffodils and pansies blooming this week and one tree (not sure what kind) starting to bud. I love seeing signs of spring!

4. Healing. I have cellulitis in one leg again. 😦 It’s odd I have gotten it this time of year each of the last three years. Though it was an ordeal each time before, this time it seems to be healing well so far. Antibiotics usually negatively affect my digestive system since I have issues with that anyway. But probiotics and IB Guard have helped tone that down a bit.

5. A husband that buys the groceries. Though he does multitudes of other things that I appreciate, this is one of the things I am most grateful for. I tried to avoid asking him when he was working 50+ hours a week. But he has assured me that he doesn’t mind. And since he has retired, I don’t feel as guilty. 🙂 Plus, sometimes he brings a surprise home–something to grill for dinner or something he saw that was marked down.

I hope your March is starting out well!

  1. How nice that your husband does grocery shopping. I’m tempted to start ordering mine, but it requires being more organized!

Seeing old friends, spring flowers, and going to someone else’s for dinner are all blessings and things I enjoy. I’m glad you’ve found a remedy for your leg. It’s always something, isn’t it?

    • I have thought that often–“It’s always something!” 🙂

I like online grocery ordering except some of our stores had very narrow time windows for picking things up, or you had to order the day ahead. Or they’d substitute things we didn’t want. Once they said they were out of something I wanted. I had to go in the store for something I forgot to put on the list and found a shelf full of the thing they said they didn’t have! I guess no system is perfect.

  2. I have always really enjoyed grocery shopping-maybe your husband does too? I hope so. I am sorry about the cellulitis! I know from my friend who is prone to it that it does tend to come back 😦 The good news is that she gets better at spotting it early now so hopefully it doesn’t get as bad. Prayers for healing!

  3. I love seeing the blooms here and there. The Bradford Pears are blooming all around where I live. So pretty!

That’s so nice that Jim does the groceries! I don’t mind the shopping. It’s the lugging them into the home that gets me.

So sorry to hear about the cellulitis coming back. I’m glad it’s responding to the antibiotics.

    Have a great weekend!

    • Yes–dragging all the groceries in the house and putting them away is sometimes the harder part, especially after being tired from walking all over the grocery store. We only had one house where the door from the driveway led directly into the kitchen. Why is that?! I saw a lot of Bradford pear trees in bloom on the way home from church this morning. So pretty!

  4. I hope your leg heals well. The last time I was on antibiotics, my stomach really bothered me. I had skin cancer and the antibiotic was good for treating possible skin infections. My husband helps with shopping too. I hope you have a great weekend!

  5. Take 2. I tried to comment earlier and it wouldn’t let me.

It’s very common in the late winter/early spring for cellulitis to flare up as it’s from strep bacteria which tends to rise up in winter/early spring. How do I know this? from my 40+ years of teaching special ed prek. Plus our oldest girl got strep throat every single year from age 7-12. Every single spring break (the week of Easter for us here in NY ). Some of my students would present with cellulitis. and some with the throat pain. I will pray a fast healing for you! Thank the Lord for antibiotics!

How fun to run into an old friend and get a good chat in.

YAY for hubbies who do the grocery shopping.

I love that you finally got over to your son and DiL’s place.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    • Interesting about cellulitis being caused by strep. I thought any bacteria caused it. They say that fluid that pools into my lower legs somehow makes me more prone to it. I try to keep my feet up as much as possible.

  6. Glad you got to visit Jason and Mittu at their home for a change but sorry to hear about the cellulitis. I hope it heals quickly. Yes it’s good to see spring flowers – several trees near us are blooming. Great to have a hubby who enjoys shopping – mine does too but I do have to make sure he sticks to the list lol. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

  7. Jeff does most of our grocery shopping too since he retired. I sometimes still feel guilty about it. 🙂 But he doesn’t mind going and now that he’s learned to use a list (lol), he does a great job. He also does a lot of the cooking, so I gladly hand over the kitchen to him. Glad you ran into a friend last week! That’s always a fun treat. Hope you have a good week.

  8. No blooms here yet. In fact, we had a dump of wet snow this morning. Hubby does our Costco run most months, probably because he sticks to the list while I tend to bring home way more than the list. LOL. I do the regular grocery store runs. How fun to finally be able to go back to Jason and Mittu’s. And to run into a friend and catch up.

  9. What a lovely set of faves this week. It’s amazing how little time it takes to reconnect with a friend — glad it brought joy to your whole week.

Hurray that you’ve got support while you have to take antibiotics and a dear husband who helps with a cheerful heart.
