Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

We usually celebrate Pi Day on 3/14. But I forgot about it until my Facebook memories reminded me. By that time I didn’t have either the ingredients or the oomph to prepare. We didn’t really do anything to observe St. Patrick’s Day, either, though we don’t always.

So it’s been a much needed quiet week. Here are some of the best parts, sharing with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story.

1. Safety despite storms. This has been a wild weather week. We had some thunderstorms one night, which can lead to fallen limbs and power loss. But they didn’t this time. Then we got snow one day, but it didn’t even stick here. The kids had a slight accumulation in their neighborhoods, but it melted pretty quickly.

2. Recaps. Our church posts snippets from the Sunday sermon on Facebook and Instagram through the week, and our Sunday School teacher will sometimes email a recap of the morning’s lesson. I find them all helpful in remembering and meditating on what was shared on Sunday. It can be hard to take everything in at the moment. Plus, for whatever reason, I have the most trouble sleeping on Saturday nights, so sometimes I am fighting to keep awake and alert on Sunday mornings.

3. Financial paperwork is not a favorite, generally. But I am thankful my husband has a head for that kind of thing. I do not. And I am grateful he has taken the initiative in preparing ahead in order to make things easier on the kids when we’re gone.

4. The first day of spring! It’s nice to have it officially here, and bringing a bit of a warming trend with it.

5. Affresh. Our washing machine had kind of a yucky smell. The paperwork that came with it suggested something called Affresh, tablets to run through a cycle to clean it out. Our washer even has a cycle setting just for that. We hadn’t used it before, but found it at the grocery store. It took a couple of run-throughs, but the washer smells much better now. Sometimes it’s the little things. 🙂

How was your mid-March week?

  1. I really need to get my “paperwork” in order. Something I think about and quickly forget. We have had similar weather here in Missouri. It is going to be 84 today and 88 by Sunday! LOVE IT!!!! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  2. We did okay during those storms in our area as well. Those things always make me nervous, especially if a possible power outage is involved.

I often watch your church’s service on You Tube. It usually posts a few days after Sunday. I enjoy that.

That must be so comforting for your husband to deal with all the paperwork. Such a relief for you. I hate paperwork!

Yes to the first day of spring! It’s chilly out but we’ve got warmer temps coming.

  3. We had such scary winds last Friday (I noticed because I had to drive!). It’s been a pretty wild weather spring so far. I also kind of “spaced” both Pi Day and St Patrick’s this year. I even forgot to wear green on that day (as a piano student reminded me). Oh well. You’re right about the little things! I need to check out Affresh. Our dishwasher recently has had a bad smell.

  4. It’s funny how it works out with financial paperwork that one person likes doing it and the other can’t stand it. Same with our family. Except I’m the one who takes care of it. Last year I started preparing a list of accounts, etc., that hopefully will make life easier for our daughter if we were to pass unexpectedly. But I stalled and didn’t quite finish. Yay to spring’s arrival! We’ve had crazy weather too. From shorts to snow, back to shorts.

  5. I’m glad the storms didn’t affect you too much. Paperwork can be so tedious at times. I usually deal with most of it but yes planning ahead is a good thing to do. Have a good weekend.

  6. I’m so glad that you didn’t suffer any power outages or anything during the thunderstorms. We had some storms here too…a lot of high winds, and there were some around us who lost power, but we didn’t.

Those recaps from Sunday’s sermons are helpful. I’m not on either of those social media platforms, but I do enjoy the recorded sessions that the pastor and the other two men (one of them being your son) do to further discuss some of the topics from the Sunday sermon.

Walmart doesn’t always carry the Afresh tablets but they have something similar that I use. It really does clean out some things .

  7. I didn’t know there were refresher tabs for a washer! i always just use some baking soda and bleach combo that I make myself to “freshen” the musty smell. I’ll have to look for those!

YAY for hubbies who do the paperwork (mine does all things taxes and I balance the checkbook). That’s a huge blessing.

it’s been weird weather here all week. one minute it’s Spring, then an hour later it’s winter. HAHA but that’s life in March up here in the Great Northeast.

    HAPPY WEEKEND!!

  8. Hi Barbara, my hubby does our taxes and keeps the important papers saved properly. I am to ADD to be in charge of it. I forgot about Pi day too. I live about 30 miles from Disneyland. I have the cheapest pass and go when my son and his family can go. My husband can drop me off so I go when my son goes so he can take me home. They can’t go next Friday so I will have to wait until April. I can’t drive at night, and hubby does not have a pass.

  9. Happy Happy Spring to you! It sounds like Kentucky weather was crazy like Ohio weather this past week. Snow and warm sunshine in one week.

It is wonderful to have a husband who can do all the financial things. I appreciate mine, too.

    Have a wonderful weekend! Willow

  10. I know how you love mild, quiet weeks 🙂

So pleased to hear the storms didn’t cause damage in your immediate area.

That’s a neat way to keep church family connected through the Word.

I know what you mean about finances and legal stuff. My Mom is the one with the head for it and I’m so so thankful, esp since my Dad is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s. We’re trying to capture as much detail as we can.

  11. Quiet weeks can be great blessings to recoup and recharge. Glad those storms didn’t hit you with damage. It’s a blessing to have a hubby with a head for that kind of stuff. And you’ve reminded me that we also have to update some things.
