Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

It’s been such a busy week, I had to double check whether Mother’s Day was last Sunday or the Sunday before–it seems so long ago already. Friday’s Fave Five hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story helps me pause and take note of the blessings of the week.

1. Mother’s Day. Jim went out for breakfast sandwiches that morning so I didn’t have to cook. Then for dinner, he grilled ham steaks, Jesse made cheesy potatoes, and Jason made chocolate pretzel pie. We Face-timed Jeremy while I opened thoughtful presents and cards. It was a lovely day, and I am so thankful my family makes it extra-special.

2. Good results from scans. My mammogram and bone density scans were okay. A “little thinning” of bone density, with calcium supplements and weight-bearing exercise encouraged.

3. An okay visit with the cardiologist, a four-month follow-up from the ablation. My EKG was a little wobbly, but he didn’t seem to be worried about it.

4. Not one, but two craft store excursions. I needed something from Hobby Lobby, which is like a Grandma’s amusement park to me. 🙂 I enjoyed walking around. I had gift cards, so I didn’t feel guilty buying a couple of “extras.” Then, I’ve had a gift card to Michael’s that I’ve been trying to use up for months, if not years. But our local Michael’s is small and doesn’t have much. There’s another one near the cardiologist’s office half an hour away, so I stopped in while I was in that area. That store is so much bigger! I found some things I loved, and, as a bonus, I found at the cash register that they were marked down.

5. A visit with friends. A couple from church invited Jason, Mittu, Timothy, and Jim and me for dinner Saturday night. The man is skilled in archery and taught the guys some basics, letting them use his bows and arrows. They had fun. We enjoyed a tasty stir-fry of chicken and vegetables as well as wonderful conversation.

How was your week? I trust you can see God’s blessings sprinkled throughout.

  1. I love Hobby Lobby! I’m glad you found a good Michaels near you to get the things you wanted. The Michaels near me is small as well and I don’t go there much any more.

Your Mother’s Day sounded so special. How wonderful to have your family spoil you! You deserve it.

Glad to hear that your medical tests came back okay. It’s always a relief to hear those words!

  2. Dinners with church friends are so wonderful aren’t they? and how fun the guys learned some archery skills. I remember trying archery at the Christian camp my parents sent us girls to. I wasn’t too good at it. 🙂

I’m glad you had a wonderful Mother’s Day. yummy…the pie sounds delish and one my hubby would enjoy! recipe? maybe I’ll surprise hubby with one for his July birthday.

Glad you had good dr visits and reports!!

    Happy weekend

  3. Sounds like you had a lovely Mother’s Day and glad you got good reports from the scans/Drs visits. I’m assuming Hobby Lobby is a bit like our Hobby Craft stores which I love browsing around although if it’s for knitting or crochet supplies a dedicated yarn shop is probably better here. Have a lovely weekend.

  4. I’m glad you got some appointments behind you! I think loss of bone density is pretty much a given for most women our age. I too am now lifting (not very heavy) weights and wearing a weighted vest for daily walks. Also taking Vitamins D/K, calcium, boron, magnesium, etc. I don’t do most things in a small way–lol. I love that your dr on the heart thing didn’t seem too concerned. I tell myself that doctors see these things all the time and if they don’t seem concerned, I don’t need to be either. And haha, I love Hobby Lobby as “Grandma’s amusement park”!

  5. I totally get you on the busy-ness of these packed weeks. Your Mother’s Day meal sounds delicious, though I’m sure your favorite part was just not cooking! Pleased to hear your health checkups are done.

My mom needed something from HL and, since my dad was with us, he tagged along, too. He enjoyed just looking around (mostly at all the gardeny things) and deemed it worth a second visit 🙂

That interesting visit with (new?) friends sounds fun!

  6. Thank you for this lovely blog. I really liked the way you said that God’s blessings are “sprinkled throughout.” I think that actually sums up your whole post so beautifully — noticing the little gifts woven through ordinary days.

And honestly… a cardiologist not seeming worried feels like a pretty big blessing! That must have brought such a sense of relief.

I just enjoyed reading your Friday’s Fave Five. It felt so cozy and cheerful. And I completely understood your comment about Hobby Lobby being like a grandma’s amusement park. 😂 I love hobby stores too… although thrift stores are probably my real danger zone. Put me in a good thrift store with old books, and yarn, and I may never come out again.

    Love from the Netherlands 🌷

  7. Hi Barbara, Your Mother’s Day sounds like it was nice! I had a bit of a scare with pain and lump on my breast. But the mamo and ultrasound didn’t find anything. I had to wait about a month from the dr appointment and whatever was there was gone. There were a lot of prayers and God answered them! I have osteoporosis and need another bone scan. All aging things. I am doing a lot of strength training now. Glad your test came out well!

  8. Hobby Lobby and Michael’s…you’re talking my language! I’m glad you got discounts, too!

Your Mother’s Day celebration was lovely, I’m sure. And the dinner at the friends’ home sounds like fun. I did archery when I was a kid, but I haven’t for decades. I’m glad the guys enjoyed it. Willow

  9. Love the phrase “Grandma’s amusement park” in relation to your craft store. Glad you got to spend some time in a bigger one and spend the gift cards. Always fun shopping when you don’t actually have to spend your money. Glad you had good scan results. I had my first ever bone density scan this month, too. Your Mother’s Day sounds lovely.
