Friday’s Fave Five

Friday's Fave Five

We’re almost a week into June already. I’m pausing with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, where she hosts an opportunity for folks to share some highlights or blessings of their week.

1. Winning an Amazon gift card from Susan for a drawing she was hosting. I used it to buy this mini sewing room kit. It doesn’t look as easy as the Lego bookish sets I did! We’ll see how it goes.

2. Lunch with Melanie. I enjoyed the conversation as well as the food at Cracker Barrel with the gift cards my family gave me.

3. An impromptu dinner date. Jim and I went out to Olive Garden one night this week. It’s a little further away than most of the places where we eat, so we don’t get there often. But we both love that this one was divided into smaller areas instead of being one big room. The noise level at some restaurants takes away from the enjoyment of them, but Olive Garden didn’t have that problem.

4. A “retirement” schedule. I joke that even though my husband is retired, I don’t get to retire. 🙂 Someone still has to cook and clean and do laundry. 🙂 Not that I mind. The load for that kind of thing is a little lighter now, though. And Jim does help with cleaning and dishes sometimes, and he does the grocery shopping now. But what I most appreciate about our more relaxed schedule this week is that, most of the time, if I wake up in the middle of the night and can’t go back to sleep, I can take a nap as needed. I’d rather get all my sleeping done at the designated time and place. But when that doesn’t happen, I can make up for it.

5. VBS (Vacation Bible School) for our church is this week. We donated some supplies for the crafts and decorations, but we’re not able to be there every night to help. Mittu is helping, though, and Timothy is a helper this year instead of attending as a kid. Our VBS director has more love and enthusiasm for this ministry than anyone I’ve ever known. It’s been fun to see the decorations going up, and we look forward to hearing how it all went. They’re using Answers in Genesis Emerald Crossing curriculum based on Psalm 23 this year.

That was our week. How was yours?

  1. I love. . . love. . .love the mini sewing room! I can’t wait to see it put together. I love miniatures and if I had the money and space, I’d have a doll house and furnish it.

I enjoyed our meal and it wasn’t as crowded that day, so the noise level was not too bad. I agree that places like Olive Garden that have partitioned-off dining spaces are much more relaxing.

I remember those days of helping in VBS. Always so fun but I was glad to have it end.

Have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

  2. Our church used Emerald Crossing also! VBS was this past week. We thought we might be going somewhere, so I didn’t sign up to help. That’s OK – it turned into a busy week. 🙂 –Ann

  3. I Love that your grandson is helping out with VBS….it’s so early in the year for it! Here in NY, all the churches host VBS in July or sometimes August. of course our schools are still in session until the last Wed of June whereas down south you guys end earlier like in the midwest?

That little sewing room looks so cute!

It’s always so nice to eat out with friends and catch up. Glad you could do that this year.

I might take a nap this afternoon! I didn’t sleep well last night but I’m afraid if I do fall asleep that then i won’t sleep all night tonight either! sigh. I usually wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom….my primary said it’s the age 🙂

    Happy Weekend!!

  4. VBS is always a wonderful week for the children and for the adults and helpers too (like Timothy). I’m glad Timothy wanted to help.

Lunch with a friend is always a blessing. I’m sure both Melanie and you enjoyed it. We like Olive Garden, too. It’s Tall Boy’s favorite restaurant.

    Have a good week! Willow

  5. Thanks for the shout out, and I love the little room kit you got! It’s so cute. My first thought is to run for my reading glasses 🙂 I am sure you will get it looking really nice. Be sure to post a picture when you finish!

Sounds like some good eating this week too. A big train went through our area tonight and my husband kind of impromptu wanted to go see it pass through. I went along, and had no idea what I was going to do for dinner. After the train I suggested a Chipotle-like local place he had mentioned that was nearby so we went there. Win!

  6. That sewing room kit is absolutely adorable, Barbara. Good luck with putting it together.

Timothy helping with VBS this year sounds like he’s growing up into a good helper. I know he will do a great job and have fun doing it. He reminds me so much of our grandson Josh.

Glad that you and Melanie had a great lunch together this week…not that I doubted that you would. 🙂

Have a lovely weekend, Barbara! xx

  7. My kids attended lots of VBS over their summers. How fun that Timothy is helping out now. I’m sure your craft donations will be well used. That’s a cute miniature. Don’t know if I would have the patience to do one of those.

I love hearing from you. Leave comments here, and they will appear after I see and approve them. If you have trouble commenting, please let me know at my email address in the sidebar.
