In honor of Father’s Day this Sunday, I thought I’d salute dads and post lines that seem common to dads everywhere. Did your dad say these? Can you think of any others?
1. Do you think I am made of money? (or Do you think money grows on trees?)
2. This is going to hurt me a lot worse than it will hurt you.
3. You’re not leaving my house dressed like that!
4. Close the door. Were you born in a barn?
5. As long as you live under my roof, you will live by my rules.
6. Don’t make me stop this car!
7. “Hey” is for horses.
8. When I was your age , I….
9. You didn’t beat me. I let you win.
10. Who said life was supposed to be fair? Life is not fair.
11. I’ll tell you why. Because I said so. That’s why.
12. What are your intentions with my daughter?
13. You’ve got a headache? Here, let me step on your toe, and you’ll forget your head hurts.

My dad always pretended he was playing a small violin when I complained to him. The funny thing is that I started doing it to my students when I taught school, and I do it to my son now. Haha!
Those were cute! 🙂
N° 1, 4 and 11 especially suit for my father ! The rest is very true too !
do we have the same father???
Looks like you have been in consultation with my father!!! All those are EXACTLY what my dad you used to say 🙂
Hmm. My dad didn’t say ANY of these!
It’s fun to try to think of his one-liners, though. I think my dad can’t be reduced to single lines — only to stories. He’s a great storyteller.
Awwwwwwww… you forgot “Pull my finger”! LOL! Actually, MY dad didn’t say that — or any of these. Well… maybe were ya born in a barn?! But he had a host of others!!! LOL!
See? I KNEW we were sisters! We have the same dad!
I like this list. My dad never really said any of those things, but then my dad is the “strong silent type.”
LOL. Those are great. The one from my Dad that I remember the most is “Don’t give me the gears”.
LOL at those! What a great idea for a TT!
My dad said most of these when I was growing up, and a few are some that Wes says to our kids. His favorite saying is #10. That’s one that I don’t remember my dad saying, though.
Those are great, Barbara! I’m sure I heard my dad say several of those at one time or another.
My dad used to love saying this: “As long as you live under my roof, you will live by my rules.” There you go.
