I really thought I was going to have to sit this one out, because I just could not think of anything rare that I owned or had a picture of. Then I thought of this picture of my husband and I on our 25th wedding anniversary a year and a half ago. It’s rare because we don’t have many pictures of the two of us together, but what makes it more rare is that — this moment never actually happened. 🙂

We had gone to stay at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC for our anniversary and went to visit the Biltmore House. My husband had grabbed batteries for the camera as we were getting ready to go but discovered, as we were trying to set this picture up at the Biltmore House, that the batteries were in fact old, almost dead ones. We only had enough “juice” to take two pictures. In one I was looking away, in the other he was. So, when we got back, I asked my oldest son, proficient in all things related to the computer, if he could Photoshop the two images — and he did. Pretty cool, huh?

  1. You and your husband look alike, Barbara! 🙂 Thanks for sharing the happy and rare moment and wish you a good week end! Oh, and thanks for stopping by, too…..

  2. wow that’s pretty cool! you wouldn’t even be able to tell if you hadn’t explained it, great job to your son. and it’s a great picture of you and your husband, glad you could have a lovely souvenir of your anniversary in spite of the batteries. Happy hunting!

  3. You sure can’t tell that it has been altered! Looks totally natural. That’s kinda scary, huh?

    My photo is posted, too!

  4. I was asked at work why I don’t have any photos of my hubby up…i said it was because they all had me in them…lol! I read your writing above and it is good! Thanks.

  5. Your son did a very good job ! It has become a very nice picture of both of you. I don’t have photoshop (yet) but I want one, lol ! Maybe for my birthday, have to suggest this “discretly”, lol !

  6. Great job with the Photoshop! Your son is very skillful because one can’t tell if your photo has been ‘doctored’. Great work! LOL. Speaking of that, I remember not too long ago in Mar, I was helping my sister with her school magazine and I cloned a girl’s skirt onto another girl’s because her shirt was untucked. They can’t tell the difference. The wonders of technology…

  7. he did a good job! I had no idea that the photo had been tampered with. A picture that never happened is very rare indeed.

  8. That is a great photo of the two of you. It is amazing how we can do so many things now on the computer.
I have a post up too so please stop by

  9. Hi Barbara,….The view of the mountains is great. My sister lives in hendersonville, n.C., near here. Thanks for sharing and stopping by my place.
    Baba

  10. Oh this is a fabulous choice! I love the mountains and you both look like you are having a fantastic time together. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  11. I have my photo blog and I pride myself in not altering the pictures, they go straight from my camera to a post. However in your case it is amazing that photo shot could capture that moment specially because it was such an important date. My wife and I just celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary last October and we took a cruise with 17 of our relatives, including my son and two daughters and also my mom. I would not have not your picture was doctored if you wouldn’t have told me.

  12. That’s amazing! I wouldn’t have been able to tell the difference if you hadn’t shared it. It’s great that your son helped you make this photo possible.

Thanks for visiting me earlier. I appreciate it.

  13. This really is a “rare” picture… also rare these days are couples who remain married after 25 years. Congratulations! And many, many more.

  14. What an excellent idea, both from the point of view of merging the two originals, and that it’s a perfect example of rare, unique even. And, as srp says, also sadly rare nowadays is the long term marriage.

  15. Lovely picture! Our family Christmas picture this year was a result of some Photoshop work my husband’s co-worker did, it’s very difficult to get 3 kids to smile/look at camera on cue! 🙂

  16. Oh my.. Your son’s definitely a Photoshop professional! I mean, it didn’t appear to me that the picture was touched-up. And when you said “the moment didn’t actually happen”, I was thinking about reincarnations.

    Talk about superstitions! 🙂

  17. Your son did a wonderful job! Have to get photoshop for myself 🙂
happy saturday, nice pic of the two of you.

  18. Lovely photo! Your son did a great job – it looks like the photo was taken that way! Thanks for sharing the story behind the photo. 🙂

  19. Wow. Your son is a genius! 🙂 The picture is great! You can’t even tell it was Photoshopped!
I agree with the other posters. Just making it to 25 yrs is a rare thing! Congrats!!

  20. Modern technology! Ain’t it wunnerful? LOL! That is a great picture, a great take on the theme, and a great story!!!

  21. Isn’t Photoshop the best. My wife and I have been planning on going to visit the Biltmore home as well this summer. It feels good knowing that married couples are still in love with each other.
    Great photo.
    🙂

  22. That’s a lovely picture of the two of you! It’s amazing what they can do with Photoshop. I’ve always wanted to go to Biltmore. Sorry about the batteries.

  23. I would never have known this was photoshopped! What a great job your son did! I should try that with our next family picture!

  24. That is just awesome! You’d never know that wasn’t the actual photo taken! Congratulations on being married for so long – so rare these days! That’s rare in itself! Mine and hubby’s parent’s both celebrate 36 years this year – how cool is that? And we hit 15 – I’m looking forward to hitting the 25 year mark -and beyond! Awesome photo!

  25. WOW, and if you’d have not said anything, I’d have never known the photo was retouched! Your son does a wonderful job! Congrats on making it to 25 yrs, my hubby and I will celebrate 15 yrs in 3 days. Thank you for sharing your photo, it is indeed rare and special. Stop by and visit my rare entry if you can!
    ~Holly~

  26. Nice photo. I wouldn’t have known you weren’t actually there because you look like you are! It is indeed rare. Mine’s up too.

  27. That is a great story! I’m glad your son could do that; it is so frustrating when batteries don’t behave like they should! Which reminds me, I have to go charge mine up now!

  28. Very cool that your son could do that with your photo. Gosh, now that you mention it, we don’t have hardly any of my husband and me. I will have to see about fixing that. Great post for rare.

  29. pretty rare for me and my hubby to be together (just the two of us) in a picture, too! 😀
so cool, what your son did!!!

  30. Cool! It’s a nice picture. But I hope you realize that it’s also ‘rare’ in another sense: not too many nowdays HAVE the oportunity to take a picture on their 25th wedding anniversary, because not too many people are married that long! Congratulations to you both!
