Show and Tell Friday: Scripture plaques

Show and Tell Kelli at There’s No Place Like Home hosts “Show and Tell Friday” asking Do you have a something special to share with us? It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, an antique find. Your show and tell can be old or new. Use your imagination and dig through those old boxes in your closet if you have to! Feel free to share pictures and if there’s a story behind your special something, that’s even better! If you would like to join in, all you have to do is post your “Show and Tell” on your blog, copy the post link, come over here and add it to Mr. Linky. Guidelines are here.“

In Deuteronomy 6:4-7a, God tells His people, “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children…” In the following verses He tells of many ways we are to follow that command, talking of His Word while sitting in our houses, walking, etc., and verse 9 says, “And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.”

I enjoy taking that literally, to have God’s Word in several places on the walls of my house. Sure, there are times we breeze right by it without thinking about its impact, but there are those times of focusing on it and being reminded of and meditating on its truth.

I wanted to share a few of those plaques containing Scripture with you today. There are too many to show all of them…but it is hard to decide which ones to share now and which to save for another time!

This is one of my favorites. I made it for Shannon’s first bloggy giveaway carnival and liked it so much I made another for myself. The verse was done on the computer — I am not skilled in calligraphy or even legible handwriting! The rest is scrapbooking paper, paper lace, and a little plastic heart that was in with some buttons.

I’ve had this for some years and love the line from the hymn in the midst of the Scripture that inspired it. Love the colors, too. I don’t remember where I got it, but I am thinking maybe it was from a Home Interiors or Home and Garden party.

This was a favor from our church’s ladies’ luncheon a couple of years ago.

The following two are on either side of our dining room window.

Philippians 4:6-7.

Proverbs 17:1.

The calligraphy came from Doorposts. I bought just inexpensive mats and frames from either K-Mart or Wal-Mart.

I got this from a craft show:

The photo doesn’t quite do it justice, I just love the colors and arrangement. Calligraphy has come a long way!

Psalm 23:1, from Home Interiors.

I think I’ll save the rest for another time.

Come over to Kelli’s to peruse the rest of todays Show and Tells and even join us! It’s a fun way to et to know each other.

  1. BEAUTIFUL. I LOVE the first one, the pink one! You did a BEAUTIFUL job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So many things to try, so little time when I’m not online…. 😀
Thanks for sharing! 😀 Have a BLESSED day!

  2. What a beautiful way to display Scripture around your home. I also have always loved the pictures of the older people praying. I have the older woman hanging in my office. Scripture is powerful and it’s our weapon against the enemy. I agree that we should put it up around our homes.

  3. The plaque you made is gorgeous! My friend has decorated her husband’s office with drawings that she made and put scripture on (he’s our preacher) it is just beautiful to have those reminders up.

I have my favorite verse: Romans 8:38-39 in the same style as the Philippians verse that you have. It hangs on our bedroom wall.

  4. Hi Barbara! Those are very pretty and you did a superb job with the ones you made.
I “tagged” you this morning for a link love meme (added you to the quickly growing list of links). You can read about it
and if you wish to participate, simply copy the post at my blog and paste it to yours. Add the five links you’d love to share and notify each that you”tagged” them so they can help keep it going.
Hope you’re having a wonderful day!

  6. My grandparents had the picture of the old man praying in their dining room too. Oh, how I wish I had that picture now. Your scripture plaques are wonderful.

  7. Wonderful! I have an autoimmune disease that I have suffered greatly with. (Praise God, I am doing better now!) During some of my lowest times, I felt the urge to put up scripture of encouragement around the house. I never got around to it, but maybe I still will! Seeing this post reminded me of it! Anyway, instead I put all the scriptures on a sheet of paper and kept it in my bible. I would read them every so often.

I love Jesus. He has been good to me. 🙂

  8. You are blessed to have the scriptures displayed so beautifully in your home. I have often printed them out nicely with borders on cardstock and placed them in strategic places, changing them out from time to time.
Thanks for reminding me, I need some new ones.

  9. I love all of your beautiful pictures. I think it is so neat when we can have God’s Word around the walls of our homes. My goal is to have my house reflect Christ in such a way that anyone coming in will know that He is my Father. Thanks so much for sharing.

  10. Beautiful plaques…….we need visual aids to gently direct our thoughts to our wonderful Lord…..

Thank you for visiting with me and commenting on my silver bucket….Betty

  11. I love this…I feel as though I really would be blessed (as well as my whole family!) by having more scriptures displayed throughout the house. Yours are beautiful! Thank you for sharing!

(Stop by mine if you can…I was late posting my show and tell!)

  12. They’re beautiful, Barbara! I think I want to get some too and start adorning the walls at home. Thanks for the inspiration.

BTW, thanks for participating in Pay It Forward! Please let me have your mailing address so that I can send you the home-made gift as promised. 😀

  13. I enjoyed seeing your show and tell! Having scripture in sight is so good for everyone to see and hear! I enjoy pink and frilly so I liked the first photo the best.

  14. Those are all so very beautiful and pretty! I like the sheep one. It looks so peacful and quiet.

There have been a few occasions where scripture written on something really helped me through a tough time.

One time it was even labor. I had a cup with scripture on it with water. I didn’t even know I had that particlar cup. When the pain was really bad, I screamed out to the Lord that I needed encouragment from Him.

As soon as I opened my eyes I looked at the cup and the scripture was the one that says, “I Can Do All Things through Christ which Strengetheth me.” How timely was that? 😉
