Friday’s Fave Five

Welcome to Friday’s Fave Five, hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, in which we can share our favorite things from the last week. This has been a wonderful exercise in looking for and appreciating the good things God blesses us with. Here are five of my favorites from the past week:

1. Fall. A few people mentioned this last week, but in our area it just began feeling and looking like fall over the past week. I love the coolness in the air and can’t wait to see more fall colors.

2. Jesse’s jacket. He had grown out of his last year, so we went to the mall this week to look for another one. I hadn’t yet been to the particular store I wanted to try first, so I didn’t know the best place to park, but we ended up going right in the door that led to the men’s department. And then we found a nice leather jacket on sale for about half the price I had in mind! I meant to take a picture of it before he left for school, but I forgot. Then I checked the women’s department and found a couple of sweaters for Jim’s mom — I had been seeing a lot of “fashion sweaters” but had trouble finding just a functional cardigan, but I found two for her there. I love quick successful shopping trips!

3. Pretty little note pads. I keep one on my desk and one on the kitchen counter besides the magnetic one on the refrigerator. I don’t even remember where or when I got these — I found them when I unpacked.

4. Coca Cola cake at Cracker Barrel. My family doesn’t really like that restaurant and I haven’t found any new Cracker Barrel buddies here yet, but I had a hankering for it yesterday, so I got a take-out order. The cake was the best part!

5. Friends who pray. I was very touched by the responses of blog friends to our family news in general, but those who said they pray for us especially touched my heart. Thank you!

I mentioned last week that we’d been having some visitors to our bird feeder. I’ve been trying to get pictures, but, of course, if I open the door, they scatter. So these are the best of the ones taken through the window zoomed in as much as I can zoom!

There is a very little one that looks like a shadow on the left side! Since it can fit into the feeder and usually comes at it from the back side, it’s hard to see. But I do see his silhouette pecking away in there.

Have a great Friday.

  1. Ahhhh I had forgotten about the coca-cola cake at Cracker Barrel! It’s been far too long since I’ve been able to eat at one of those! We saw one in VA when we were out in DC, but I didn’t see it until AFTER we had eaten somewhere else. (I was tempted to eat again just because.)

Love the note pads and yay for a quick, successful shopping trip!

    Have a great weekend!

  2. I’ve never heard of coca-cola cake. Sounds interesting. I’ve heard of Cracker Barrel but never eaten at one. 🙂 Boy you can tell Autumn is coming. Everyone is posting about it. It’s a great time of year, not my favorite, as I like spring the best 🙂 Love the photos. Is that a Robin? Great captures. Have a wonderful Friday 🙂

    • The red one is a cardinal. I am not sure about the little one — I have seen it fly in and out and know it is kind of grayish, but i haven’t seen it enough to get a good look at it.

  3. Your note pads are pretty. Being on Prince Edward Island many gifts come in the form of Anne of Green Gables and I have note cards and a pad from long ago that came in a writing set. The box I open often as I keep other note paper in it and always take out my GG notes and look at them and put them back never writing on them.

I laughed about your photo taking of the birds. I have seen a screen picture before. Have a great weekend.

  4. I love pretty notepads. I cannot pass them by in the store! LOL.

We don’t have Cracker Barrels here but I’ve heard lots of good things about them. The coca cola cake sounds delicious.

  5. Coca Cola cake… oh my! I must look for a recipe. Sounds really good. Yes, I agree it’s wonderful to have praying friends. Enjoy those fall colors!

    Blessings, e-Mom

  6. I’ve never heard of this coke a cola cake, but I’m intrigued! I will have to try it next time I’m there. That’s awesome you had shopping successes! Just the other day I was looking for just a plain jane cardigan and it was almost impossible to find one!

  7. Well I’ll chime in with everyone else to say I’ve never heard of this Coca Cola cake either. Sounds interesting. Friends who pray are priceless. Glad you found that jacket for a good deal! Blessings…

  8. Oh I love quick and productive shopping trips too! Unfortunately NONE of my trips ARE such anymore…. not with Mom! lol!

Well… I HAVE heard of coco cola cake – but I’ve never tried it. I have a really hard time believing I would like it! … maybe if they called it Pepsi Cake! 🙂

  9. We don’t have a Cracker Barrel in our area but when I go to Phoenix, I can have a yummy meal there. Thanks for your family news update. Isn’t it great to have blog friends who care about you and pray for you?

  10. That’s a very pretty notepad! I can never bring myself to write on them. Fall is my favorite season although I don’t get to experience it here. It’s summer all year long. LOL.

I love hearing from you. I've had to turn on comment moderation. Comments will appear here after I see and approve them.
