I run to Christ when chased by fear
And find a refuge sure.
“Believe in me,” His voice I hear;
His words and wounds secure.
I run to Christ when torn by grief
And find abundant peace.
“I too had tears,” He gently speaks;
Thus joy and sorrow meet.
_____
I run to Christ when worn by life
And find my soul refreshed.
“Come unto Me,” He calls through strife;
Fatigue gives way to rest.
I run to Christ when vexed by hell
And find a mighty arm.
“The Devil flees,” the Scriptures tell;
He roars, but cannot harm.
_____
I run to Christ when stalked by sin
And find a sure escape.
“Deliver me,” I cry to Him;
Temptation yields to grace.
I run to Christ when plagued by shame
And find my one defense.
“I bore God’s wrath,” He pleads my case—
My Advocate and Friend.

Some of you comment that you’re unfamiliar with the hymns I post. That will be especially true this time because it is a relatively new hymn! I am not sure when it was written, but I just became aware of it when Chris posted a mention of it on his blog a few days ago, and it spoke to my heart. You can peruse more of Chris and Greg’s hymns at their web site, Church Works Media. Notes on the text to this hymn are here and a lovely orchestration of it can be heard by scrolling to the end of this post.
This is a lovely hymn but I have just been preaching to people about remembering to turn to Christ even when things are going well and they aren’t in dire need!
True, but I think we’re in dire need of Him every moment even when we don’t realize it.
Very excellent point Barbara. I love this one…probably my favorite of the hymn texts Chris has written. There is a SoundForth demo here as well: http://www.churchworksmedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/I-Run-to-Christ-SATB.mp3
I liked this my friend. You know it just gives me a good feeling to read these 🙂 Thanks for sharing 🙂 Have a wonderful Sunday 🙂
I know this one already, thanks to you. You linked to the Church Works Media site once before, and I saw that you could print off sheet music. I had printed off this song because I am actually able to play it on the piano. I have enjoyed learning it. Thanks for sharing it.
And did you see the recent FB status from Chris….this is going to be in the new Majesty Hymns song book! 🙂
