Friday’s Fave Five

Welcome to Friday’s Fave Five, hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story, in which we can share five of our favorite things from the last week,  wonderful exercise in looking for and appreciating the good things God blesses us with. It’s going to be hard this week to figure out which five things to draw from the last week as favorites, as nearly every aspect of Christmas would qualify. But I’ll do my best.

1. Christmas, of course. Though things were different this year, even a little disjointed, it was a lovely day. I wrote more about it here. The family time, love expressed, wonderful foods and smells — the whole month, really, has been a nice celebration of Christmas.

2. A new iPhone! I didn’t think I’d be getting one til later in the year, so I was very surprised! Love it.

3. A Tivo. I’ve wanted a DVR for years. So frustrating to tape things and then have to search which tape it’s on and where on the tape it is. This eliminates that, plus it’s really nice to pause a network show in play whenever you need to why you take care of other needs and then come back to it!

4. Days off. Jim was off all last week and this week, and Jesse is off until next Wednesday. The week before Christmas was pretty busy, but this week after has been like a whole week of Saturdays. We’ve had some time to rest and some time to get things done, but at a generally relaxed pace.

5. Hearing all the kids play games together again. One of the things I love about when we’re all together.

It’s been a great week! I hope yours has been as well.

  1. Hope you enjoy your iPhone. Maybe one day I will get one and join the crowd.:-)

You’ll love your Tivo. I’ve been super pleased with our DVR. I prefer to watch only what I’ve recorded so I can skip through all the commercials and not have to flit through channels (Jeff, on the other hand,….) ha.

A week of Saturdays. That’s what it’s felt like at my house too. A wonderfully unrealistic way to live all the time, but it’s my favorite week of the year. 🙂

  2. I’ve been enjoying the same things as you this week. A more relaxed pace with family around. A week of Saturdays is a great description!

I love my PVR. Getting to watch shows when I want to watch them is awesome. I also love that I can fast forward through commercials on the taped shows and also the live shows. I just pause the show at the beginning for about 5 minutes and then start to watch it allowing me to get past those darn commercials when they come around.

  3. Sounds like a perfect week, with some exciting gifts.

I like your description of the quiet week between Christmas and New Year’s.

Hope your New Year’s celebration is as wonderful as the Christmas one was!

    Blessings for 2012

  4. I read your post about being flexible at Christmas…we did a bit of that this year, too. But overall, I’m hearing you say what I’ve been thinking – what a joy the week and the season has been. I’m sure as more of my boys get married, have families and get jobs, even more flexibility will be called for!

Glad you had a good family time. Have a great new year!

  5. When we had DirectTV we also had Tivo and we loved it for the exact reasons. We got to where we would time when to start the show so we could ff through all the commercials.
    Happy 2012!

  6. I hope you enjoy your iPhone. I love mine! I’m glad you had a nice Christmas. It’s hard sometimes when life changes everything that we’ve become accustomed to, but I’m glad so many of us still feel the joy of the season.

    Happy New Year to you!
