Friday’s Fave Five

It’s Friday again! Time to pause with Susanne and friends to note the good things of the week, lest they slip by without notice. Here are some highlights of my week:

1. A meal I didn’t cook. I always appreciate when my daughter-in-law texts to see if they can come over and make dinner, but especially when I was just thinking I didn’t feel like cooking that night.

2. Taking care of plants. I don’t do that as often as I should. But our front planters have some ivy that likes to take over, and our roses badly needed deadheading and pruning. I kept planning to go out early before it got hot, but never made it. So one evening when Jim had to go somewhere after dinner, I did some work with the plants then. Plus I took a houseplant Jason and Mittu had given me and replanted it outside. It still had some green leaves, so hopefully it will do better out there than it did inside. Nice to get those things taken care of.

3. Root beer floats are my reward for getting hot and sweaty working outside. 🙂 We get these mini cans of root beer that are just the right amount for our glasses. And thankfully lactose-free ice cream is available now.

4. Air conditioning and ceiling fans. I don’t know how people survived 90+ degree temperatures and 80+% humidity without them.

5. A Zoom visit. I had not been able to get together with a friend that I sometimes go to lunch with since before the coronavirus started. We decided to have our own Zoom meeting. It was fun to catch up while seeing each other.

That’s my week. How was yours?

  1. Wow, I would love to borrow your daughter-in-law 🙂 I love plants. I think working with them is really therapeutic. Glad you got a little of that this week!

  2. Another great week for you. Your daughter-in-law sounds like a real gem. Yay for root beer floats, flourishing plants, time with family and zoom calls with a friend. Hope you have a great weekend. Stay well and safe!

  3. Oh, a root beer floats sounds so yummy! I can’t remember the last time I had one. Such a great feeling to have someone take on dinner duty. It is like losing 10 lbs for me, when hubby comes up with a plan, especially when I’m just not in the mood to cook. Gardening can be so satisfying, it’s just taking that first step to do it!

  4. ooh….a cooked meal by someone else…the best!

Yay for working with plants. I’ve been doing mine late in the evening as we’re having another heat wave as well. I love summer and working in my little flower garden.

I haven’t had a root beer float in years!! YUMMY!!!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

  5. My DIL only calls me on my birthday or even shows up same for Christmas and sometimes Easter, otherwise my son and grandson are coming alone. Not even now when we moved she proposed to help us. Strange girl. She was like that from the beginning on, but would never say anything against me to son and grandson !

  6. Barbara, hi! I love each and any meal that someone cooks for me! It’s always always a treat to dine on someone else’s food.

And then, the root beer floats!

    ;-}

  7. I know I say it lots, but what a blessing Mittu is! Those kinds of meals always taste the best! Glad you got some plant jobs done. It is hard when it is so hot out. I don’t mind dead heading but weeding…bleh. Oh my, I haven’t had a root beer float in many a year. I might have to remedy that!

  8. Every week, you mention that Mittu cooks! I think she must really enjoy it. And it blesses you.
I may be in the minority, but I love weeding and most any part of gardening.
Enjoy this week and try to stay cool(er).
