Friday’s Fave Five

Here we are at the last Friday of June already. It’s good to slow down for a moment with Susanne and friends at Living to Tell the Story to think about the blessings of the week before their memory is gone forever. Please feel free to join in!

1. Father’s Day. We enjoyed remembering our fathers and honoring my husband and son. I am so thankful for my husband’s showing his love and care and faithfulness every day.

We got to FaceTime with Jeremy (He’s in the picture, on the phone. 🙂 ).

Jason offered to grill burgers, so the rest of us made various sides. I made a Boston Cream Pie and Mittu made Maple Bacon Cupcakes—so good!

2. A fixed washer. Our washer’s spin cycle was so slow, it left clothes soppy. Jim ordered a part and got it working again just before I thought we might need to borrow my son and daughter-in-law’s washer. I’m sure they wouldn’t have minded, but I am glad not to have to haul laundry to their house. The washer is on its last legs, but I am glad it’s hanging in there for a while longer.

3. Consolidated errands. If I am out much of the morning, I like to be home in the afternoon, and vice versa. I ended up being out for both on Wednesday, but it was good to get my errands done all on one day so I could spend the rest of the week at home. Plus Jim acquiesced to my request for Subway sandwiches for dinner, so I had a break for the late afternoon and evening.

4. Getting past summer solstice. I do like having more daylight in the summertime. The lack of light is one of the things I least like about winter. But when the days are longest, it doesn’t feel like there is enough wind-down time in the evenings. It’s nice knowing we’re past the longest day of the year.

5. Getting a haircut has been on my agenda for a couple of weeks, and I finally made it out this week.

Bonus: I mentioned a potential shake-up last week. But it looks like everything will remain the same for now.

Happy Friday! Have you been blessed this week?

  1. You have such a lovely family. Those cupcakes look very good! I try to consolidate errands and shopping too, simply to save time but also because of gas prices. I’m not a fan of long daylight hours. I’m usually tired and ready for bed by 8 pm – at least to read for a bit before I sleep. I need the darkness to get sleepy.

  2. Loved seeing the guys in your life! On another topic — I am wondering what year your house was built? I like the rounded doorways, and it seems like I see them a lot in our local neighborhood of older houses (maybe from around the first half of the 1900s?). I got a haircut this week too! It feels good!

  3. Wonderful family photos — Mittu and her creative and tasty desserts, too. Those faithful dads in your family are great role models for Timothy.

Big appliances on their last legs… glad yours got a bit of an extension. And it seems you and I were on the same hair cut cycle! I tend to twist mine up and forget about it until something prompt me.

Glad for your bonus fave 🙂

  4. Loved seeing the men in your life all together…I’m sure Jeremy’s heart was there with everyone. Barbara, your Boston Cream Pie is absolutely gorgeous! Timothy is growing up so quickly. I remember those days when our Josh was about Timothy’s age. Fun times!

Glad that your washing machine was able to be fixed. Isn’t it wonderful to have a husband who can do those sorts of things?

I, too, am glad that we have the longest day of the year behind us.

  5. those desserts look amazing! great photo of the guys and of your son and his wife. Timmy is getting really tall!!
We had to replace our washer a few years ago…..glad your husband was able to fix yours! they’re so pricey nowadays!
I LOVE the longest day of the year. Usually I sit outside every evening but this spring with this sinus pain i just can’t seem to enjoy myself. It’s now been 3 months. I’m heading to doctor on Tuesday as she’s been away and hasn’t seen me since May. I’m praying she gives me a month’s worth of the first antibiotic she gave me in March because that worked!!

  6. Lovely family pictures and the food sounded yummy. I love the longer days – means I can walk in the evenings when it’s still light but cooler. Enjoy the weekend.

  7. Mittu is an amazing cook! She always finds a fascinating addition to the family dinners.
I loved seeing the family photos. Those guys are great blessings to your family and especially to Timothy.
Yay for getting the errands done! I’m glad you mentioned the haircut. I forgot to schedule one and that reminded me to text my stylist.
    Happy restful weekend to you.

  8. Wonderful that most of the family could be there to celebrate the Dads. I’m thankful for face time also to bring us together better. Your celebrations desserts always sound so yummy. It’s a blessing having a husband who can fix all these appliances. Glad your washer is holding out a bit longer for you with his skills.
