Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Flexible

The first thing I thought of when I saw this week’s theme was this little flexible tripod we got my oldest son to use with his digital camera. I can’t take the credit for being hip and knowing about it — he told us about it. 🙂 You can bend the legs, wrap them around something, and move the part that holds the camera to different angles.

It gives you a lot of versatility in being able to use your camera in different places and at different angles.

My second thought for flexibility was Jesse, the most flexible member of our family. I often see him playing or doing homework in what would seem to me to be very uncomfortable poses! The first picture I call “pretzel mode,” the second “vulture mode.” I’ve used these previously in Wordless Wednesday photos, but they fit here. 🙂

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Classic

I have several classic books:

Classic books

I decided to just take a picture of one shelf and spare you several close-ups. 🙂 There is a set of Dickens on the far right, Louisa May Alcott on the far left, classic children’s books, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, a set of Little House on the Prairie and Anne of Green Gables books on another shelf and a few other assorted single titles here and there.

And this is a picture of my mom in front of my folks’ car, taken in 1957. I used to know what it was, but I’ve forgotten — can anyone tell me? Thanks.

I also thought about classic toys my kids had that I also had as a kid — Mr. Potato Head, Little People, Legos, etc. But I don’t have any pictures of those handy without going through old photo albums which I don’t really have time to do today.

Happy Saturday!

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Pink

I’ve hated missing the last couple of weeks’ photo hunts. I just couldn’t come up with anything interesting and was crunched for time. But anyone who has read my blog for very long will know that I can’t pass up the pink theme! I’ve posted before some pictures of my collections of (mostly) pink hearts and things with pink roses on them. Here are a few of my favorites:

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Curvy

These appeared on my blog before in a post about my collection of heart-shaped things. Hearts are pretty curvy anyway, but these little shelves here have some extra curlicues. The shelves hang next to a wedding picture and a couple of plaques about marriage.

This I made last year. It’s one of my favorite things. Not only is the heart shape curvy, but the buttons are all curves.

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Paper

I love pretty note cards and stationery. Even though most of my communication is electronic now, I still love sending and receiving notes on beautiful paper. I have to restrain myself from buying more because I have a backlog.

I also love the gorgeous paper available for scrapbooking, note card making, and other paper crafts.

See what kinds of photos other people have come up with for the “paper” theme at tnchick’s site here.

(By the way, here’s a free tip for remembering that stationery is for writing paper and stationary is for an unmoving object: the one for paper has an e, and you can remember “e for envelope.” That’s the only way I could keep them straight for a long time.)

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Plastic

My husband works with textile products made from plastic, particularly color development for fibers from polypropylene and nylon. I asked him if I could show you a few of his pictures from work for the “plastic” photo hunt theme.

These are plastic color pellets that go into the fiber production (just as a clarification: these pellets just add the color. I don’t have a picture of what the plastic that the fiber comes from looks like):

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Music

(Show and Tell folks, that post is below this one)

We have photos of the boys at the piano for their recitals going back fifteen years to when Jeremy started when he was in third grade. Though it might be interesting to post a picture of each of them when they started and then at their senior recitals (for the older two) and last year for Jesse — it would probably look a little redundant and not be of interest to anyone but me. So I decided to use a different pictures. Jason, my middle son, is the only one who was interested in other musical instruments. He taught himself to play the penny whistle and ocarina and a little of the guitar. I do have a picture of him playing the ocarina, but it just looks like he has his mouth on a rock, so I won’t use that one. 🙂

This is a picture of only one of two times he payed the penny whistle in public.

The penny whistle is used in a lot of Irish music, which we love, and they are playing an Irish hymn, Be Thou My Vision. The other couple was at our church for a missions conference and are now missionaries in Ireland. We knew the family of the young man when he was a little boy and we all went to the same church in another town, so that was a neat experience all the way around.

He also played at a senior concert, but that’s it. I had hoped he would go on and use these talents for the Lord, and he may yet some day. But for now he doesn’t like to “perform” in front of people. He just enjoys playing at home in his room, and we enjoy the sounds filtering through the walls. 🙂

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Dirty

This is Suzie-the-dog getting undirty. You can tell how she feels about the process. Love her longsuffering, woebegone expression there.

Suzie the dog's bath

In this picture the boys are more messy, really, than dirty. This was after the “finale” of their youth group competition at the end of the school year a few years ago. They were on opposite teams. They get a little crazy with the face paint and games that night! I think there was even a food fight….

Updated: This party kept coming to mind, so I decided to scan the picture in and include it, too. This was at Jason’s 6th birthday party 14 years ago. We had let him invite several guys for a birthday party at a state park which had a clear little stream they could wade in. On the invitations we advised that they wear something they could get wet and dirty in. I vividly remember Jason excitedly telling all his friends, “We get to get dirty!” Ideal fun for a 6 year old boy! All the activity is stirring up the dirt at the bottom and making the stream look all muddy. By the way, yes, that’s me there, very pregnant with Jesse. Can you believe he wasn’t born for another two months after this picture?

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Two

I couldn’t come up with anything terribly creative this week. I did see a house number of 222 today — but I would have felt a little awkward taking a picture of someone’s house number and having them wonder what in the world I was doing 🙂

My husband likes to collect these:

I always thought Thomas Jefferson looked a bit like Buddy Ebsen here.

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Row

I took Jesse with me downtown to try to get a picture of these statues of children in a row with hands over hearts before the flag. It was a little too late in the evening, though, and too dark. I might try to go back tomorrow and get a better picture in the daylight.

Statues of kids saying pledge of allegiance

But we also saw this row of fountains in front of a building and thought they were pretty…

And a row of flags…

And a row of trees in the median.

Trees in median

This row of tiles is the project all the guys are working on for the weekend —

Working on tearing them out row by row and replacing it all with a shower surround…

Shower redo

Because too many of the tiles are doing this even after repeated regroutings.

Because of this kind of thing, the sheetrock and insulation were wet, too. It’s been a messy job for them!! I hope to post a nice “after” photo tomorrow or next week.

By the way, Jesse (age 13) took the pictures of the statues and flags. Often I use pictures I have on hand for the Photo Hunt, but it was fun to drive around and look for things that fit the theme this time. He was even thinking about starting a blog so he could post pictures of his own. 🙂
