Saturday Scavenger Photo Hunt: Scary

Theme: Scary| Become a Photo Hunter

This little guy is trying his best to look scary.

This is an old picture. We discovered several years ago that a possum family was using a rubber drainage tube from our patio down to a lower part of the back yard as their subway. This baby got separated from his family, and, if I remember correctly, was roaming around the patio. My husband and boys caught him in a bucket to try to take him where we thought the others were, but he wasn’t very happy about it…probably because we looked pretty scary to him!

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Family

photohunters2mo1.gif

Theme: Family| Become a Photo Hunter

I’ve missed the last several Photo Hunts — I was too busy some weekends, on others I just drew a complete blank with the given topic.

This is one of my favorite plaques:

Family plaque

It says:

Families are like quilts–
Lives pieced
and stitched together,
Colored by happiness and tears,
Bound by memories
and love,
Cherished throughout
the years.

We got it years ago In Chattanooga while there on a trip given to my husband as a reward for something he had done in the company. I love both what it says and the style.

Photo Scavenger Hunt: Wild, and Blue Monday

Updated: Smiling Sally hosts a Blue Monday and I thought these pictures work for that as well. 🙂

This is one of the prettiest wild things ever. It just started growing in our back yard unexpectedly one day.

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Wrinkled

Theme: Wrinkled| Become a Photo Hunter

I had decided not to do a photo hunt today, because the only things I could think of for the wrinkled theme were my face and unironed clothes, and I didn’t really want to share pictures of those wrinkles. Then just now I spied the edge of my napkin:

Decorative edge of a napkin

Sometimes wrinkling can be done deliberately for decorative purposes.

(Hey, I’m not wrinkled! That’s just decoration for my face! 🙂 )

According to Dictionary.com, “wrinkled” can mean “a temporary slight ridge or furrow on a surface, due to contraction, folding, crushing, or the like; to form wrinkles in; corrugate; crease.”

Then when I went upstairs to get my camera, I saw another example of this type of decorative wrinkling…

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Colorful

Theme: Colorful| Become a Photo Hunter

I was at a loss as to what to post today…I had a couple of ideas, but none that seemed very interesting to me. Then on my way to bed last night I spied this picture on the wall and realized it fir the bill in two ways. I almost came right back down and scanned it, but it was already pretty late.

This picture was taken more than 20 years ago to be in an ad for the company my husband worked for. As I recall he wasn’t originally supposed to be in the ad, but when they got ready to take the photo they needed someone, and he was there.

Jim at work

He makes a right handsome model, dontcha think? 🙂

He is with one of the main tools of his trade from that job, a scanning electron microscope (and all I know about it is what to call it! Though I was tickled once when on the TV show “Quincy” someone mentioned running something through the SEM and I knew what it was.) The photographer set up the colors to make the photo look science fictionish.

The picture fits the theme in another way because the bulk of my husband’s career in textiles has been in color matching. He makes sure that the color of the fiber his customer wants matches in fluorescent, incandescent, and natural lighting (that is it’s metamerism), running weather-related tests to make sure it doesn’t fade easily, tensile tests to make sure it is strong enough, etc. I told a little more about his job on an earlier photo hunt where the topic was plastic.

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Dark

This is one of my favorite dark items:

Brownie with peanut butter

…chocolate, here in the form of a brownie with a dollop of peanut butter on top.

I don’t care for dark chocolate, though.

Also, it is dark inside a cardboard tube…

…through which this picture was taken by my middle son of my youngest. I did use this for “I Spy” back in March, but it fits here, too.

Saturday Scavenger Photo Hunt: Hanging

Theme: Hanging| Become a Photo Hunter

Though this isn’t the most picturesque view of it, this is Spanish moss which hangs from a lot of trees in the Charleston area.

Spanish moss in Charleston

It’s used a lot if floral arrangements, and at the time we visited it was illegal to just pick it off the trees, because then probably too much would be stripped off.

I thought we had a picture of one place we visited that had a stream and a bridge and full, shady trees just dripping with Spanish moss, which was a really pretty setting — but all I could find was this one.

The Saturday Scavenger Hunt is sponsored by TN Chick.

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Bright

Theme: Bright| Become a Photo Hunter

I had a really hard time trying to decide what to do for today’s photo hunt…until I consulted Dictionary.com. A few of its definitions gave me some ideas.

Radiating or reflecting light; luminous; shining.

This was a picture my middle son, Jason, took during visit to CA several years ago.

Vivid or brilliant: a bright red dress; bright passages of prose.

'Tis the last rose of summer...

A particularly dewy rose one morning after it had been raining. This was from a couple of years ago: we could use some rain like that again!

Characterized by happiness or gladness.

Wedding

And the brightest spots in my life:

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Water

photohunters2mo1.gif

Theme: Water| Become a Photo Hunter

These are from a trip we took to Charleston, SC about 7 or 8 year ago. We stayed in a hotel right on Folly Beach. It was wonderful to be able to go right out onto the beach from the hotel any time we wanted to. Our kids’ spring break was a different week from most other schools, so we had the place almost to ourselves.

My husband took this first picture at sunrise on the beach one morning. He actually took a series as the sun was rising.

This one was taken from a gazebo out at the end of a pier looking back at the hotel.

That was one of our favorite vacations: beautiful, fun, and restful.

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Emotion(s)

photohunters2mo1.gif

Theme: Emotion(s)| Become a Photo Hunter

I skimmed through several photos and couldn’t really find a variety of emotions. We probably don’t take pictures of the negative ones. 🙂 And some of the ones like surprise or being perturbed I would want to get the subject’s permission before posting and I don’t have time to chase that down today. So I am going to post one that I just posted in May that to me says, “Joy.”
